Volunteer English Tutor

Paper Airplanes is a non-profit that uses video-conferencing technology to connect volunteer tutors with students affected by conflict. The time commitment to be a volunteer tutor with the English program is 2 hours per week— 1.5 hours of meeting with a student and 30 minutes of preparation reviewing the Paper Airplanes curriculum prior to lessons. There is also a training that tutors must complete prior to being matched with a student that takes 3-4 hours.

We match tutors and students based on gender, age, English proficiency, Arabic proficiency, and academic interests. Our students are young adults, primarily in the age range of 18-35, who have been affected by conflict in the Middle East and North Africa. The majority of our students are native Arabic speakers who wish to improve their English in order to pursue further education and employment opportunities.
