Puget Soundkeeper Alliance

Puget Soundkeeper’s mission is to protect and enhance the waters of Puget Sound for the health and restoration of our aquatic ecosystems and the communities that depend on them. For almost 40 years Soundkeeper has been a leader in the fight to restore and protect Puget Sound. Soundkeeper was the sixth “Waterkeeper” organization in the nation and is Founding Member for the Waterkeeper Alliance, a network that has grown to over 340 licensed members world-wide.

Since 1984, Soundkeeper has taken on formidable opponents and actions that endanger the ecosystem on which the region’s iconic salmon and orcas, as well as economic prosperity, depend. As the population grows across the Sound’s entire watershed, with growing threats from legacy and emerging toxins, climate change, and aging infrastructure, and given the declining capacity of our state and federal agencies, strong advocacy has become even more critical to saving Puget Sound for future generations. With our mix of community engagement, on-the-water pollution patrols, and litigation, Soundkeeper stands ready to take action to stop illegal pollution and protect our shared ecosystems.
