Friends of Children in Gomba FCG: Vision, Mission, Aims and Values

Friends of Children in Gomba FCG is dedicated to transforming the lives of orphans, disadvantaged and less privileged children in the rural areas of Gomba district in Uganda by meeting their basic needs and empowering them to break the cycle of poverty.

Organization Vision: To support that disadvantaged child in Gomba district become a better and responsible citizen tomorrow.

Mission: To help the less privileged children in Gomba district with these small items that can make them achieve their goals in life.

Aims

Below are cores FCG is aiming to achieve:

1. Access to Quality Education: To provide educational opportunities to all children in need including school supplies, scholarships, and tutoring, to ensure children can attend and succeed in school.
2. Health and Well-being: To deliver healthcare, nutrition, and psychosocial support to these children through promoting the physical and emotional health of vulnerable children.
3. Protection and Safety: To safeguard children from exploitation, abuse, and neglect by creating safe environments and advocating for the rights of all children regardless of gender, background and financial situation.
4. Empowerment for Self-Sufficiency: To equip children with self-sustaining life skills through promoting their talents, vocational training and mentorship to foster independence and resilience for a brighter future.
5. Community Development: To work hand in hand with their families and local stakeholders to address systemic barriers to children’s welfare, promoting sustainable change in our Gomba District.

FCG strives to be a beacon of hope by ensuring that disadvantaged children in rural areas of Gomba district grow up with dignity, opportunity, and the tools needed to thrive.

Description

We are a nonprofit community based organization working with disadvantaged children in Gomba district of Uganda. We provide them with love, hope, basic education, scholastic materials, self-reliance skills, clothes and food.

My name is Samuel and wife Lucy are the co-founders of Friends of Children in Gomba FCG an organization dedicated to help and support orphans, disadvantaged and less privileged children in Gomba district attain the required education. We are both teachers by profession and work full time with children.

In Gomba district of Uganda, many children are exposed to exponential poverty which has led many children not to go to school despite free education for all children in Uganda. Those who manage to attend school find themselves dropping out due to lack of things you may call small like exercise books, pens, pencils, school uniform, and something to eat at school. These poor parents cannot provide those small scholastic materials to their children not to mention the orphans who are staying with grandparents. That’s why these children are forced to leave school and start working at a very tender age looking for what to eat.

That’s how FCG comes in to help these less privileged children by providing those small things that can keep them in school and they become better citizens of tomorrow. Through our friends that respond to our call, we are able to get scholastic materials for these children and the attend school when they have a smile on their faces. A part from classroom teaching activities, we promote their talents through sports and agricultural skills so that they can supplement on the food grown at their respective homes and reduce the hunger syndrome.

That is why FCG calls upon volunteers that are willing to support the less privileged children in rural areas of Uganda achieve their goals of life to come and support us. As we join hands together, we change the learning environment of these children, their thinking about matters of the world, and giving them hope plus the purpose of living.

We currently work in three schools but as a volunteer you are free to choose where to work. But you are not limited to visit or work in all the three schools. Our schools are all located in rural areas where we have no electricity. But our volunteers sleep in Kanoni town which has electricity and internet network. Two schools are very near from Kanoni town.
