Justice Necessary is a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the hidden crisis of hygiene poverty in our communities. This often overlooked issue — defined by the lack of access to basic hygiene essentials, diapers, period supplies, oral care and laundry detergent — are critical to dignity, health, and well-being.
Through our five pillars — Awareness, Education, Community Engagement, Find Your Pantry, and Advocacy — we deliver immediate relief while building sustainable, long-term solutions. By partnering with organizations, policymakers, and schools, we tackle this crisis through a collaborative, community-driven approach.
We believe true change comes from working together to empower individuals to reach their full potential because access to hygiene just is necessary!

Justice Necessary is a Colorado-based nonprofit committed to ending hygiene and period poverty.
Founded in 2021 by Diane Cushman Neal, Justice Necessary was born out of a startling discovery: essential federal programs like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) do not cover the cost of hygiene products, leaving millions without access to basic necessities.
Since then, Justice Necessary has been leading the charge through more than 60 community partnerships, legislative advocacy, and educational initiatives—all focused on one essential principle: access to hygiene is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce illness and strengthen communities.
Through the collective efforts of volunteers, advocates, and partners, Justice Necessary has helped deliver:
- 1 million+ period products
- 279,000 diapers and wipes
- 325,000 basic hygiene essentials
- 900+ dispensers placed in schools and food pantries across Colorado
