    Position Overview:

    The Director, Fund Development is a major leading partner in the development and implementation of strategic plans to drive contributed income initiatives that support the museum’s financial objectives. Working directly with the VP, Fund Development and Marketing, this individual cultivates, leverages and helps to maintain corporate, foundation, government and community relationships important to effectively engaging diverse groups of constituents in the museum’s work based on the interests and needs of the community. The Director will also assist with grant writing, as needed.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Leads projects and activities related to the analysis, planning, execution and evaluation of fundraising programs, including research and data collection, to consistently meet deadlines and fundraising goals
    • Leverages both internal and external resources to effectively support fundraising goals by working closely with the CEO, VP, Integrated Fundraising and Marketing, Marketing team, Board of Directors and consultants.
    • Demonstrates influential leadership both internally and within the community and helps represent Stepping Stones as a highly respected, multidimensional, educational resource.
    • Works with the CEO and VP, Integrated Fundraising and Marketing plus other members of the Development team to develop strategic fundraising plans that include cultivation, stewardship, gift strategies and outcomes to maximize donor interest and involvement across diverse markets.
    • Prepares detailed budgets, reports and quarterly projections
    • Works collaboratively with internal teams, volunteer committees, consultants and community partners.
    • Manages the seamless administration of development functions including procedures, systems and communications. Provides appropriate training for staff and volunteers as required.
    • Coordinates fundraising event logistics with cross-functional teams.
    • Provides accurate and timely information to the CEO and VP, Integrated Fundraising and Marketing, Finance department and other internal teams, as needed.
    • Acts as an Ambassador and actively shares information within area communities to raise awareness of the museum and to drive visitation and financial support.
    • Helps to create strategies with the Development team to achieve short and long-term financial goals that ensure continuous stewarding and growth of the museum’s donor base.
    • Pursues active involvement in community organizations and committees.
    • Helps to train and manages direct reports to ensure efficient, productive and knowledgeable staff and teams.
    • Completes annual performance management process for all direct reports.

    Requirements

    Minimum Experience/Skills/Certificates:

    • College degree and/or equivalent combination of 8-10 years of education and experience in business development, nonprofit community fundraising or a related field.
    • Experience managing teams is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the intricacies of nonprofits including development of strategies and fundraising techniques.
    • Some knowledge and experience in capital campaign fundraising, major gift solicitation, planned and deferred giving, endowment development, donor recognition and stewardship.
    • Excellent strategic, financial and project planning and event management skills.
    • Sensitive to diversity including individuals with physical challenges or special needs.
    • Strong Computer skills and proven ability to learn new systems and software. Knowledge of Altru, Monday.com or similar fundraising databases is a plus.
