    BeLit is Philadelphia's largest adult literacy nonprofit. We pride ourselves on high quality service to over 1500 striving adults annually through cost-free educational services including English language learning, GED-prep, digital literacy, family literacy, and career preparation. Come join our staff of approximately 60 employees and help us change lives through literacy!

    Employees typically work onsite 4 days per week and work most Fridays remotely.

    JOB SUMMARY

    Beyond Literacy (BeLit) seeks to lead the field of adult education in the provision of high quality academic services and career development opportunities for learners of diverse ages and backgrounds. BeLit’s programs are designed to empower individuals and enhance their personal and professional lives. Our organization is committed to creating a thriving and inclusive city for all.

    Under direct supervision of the Director of Student Support, the Digital Navigation Specialist is responsible for supporting digital inclusion and equity initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, educating community members on general information related to free or low cost home broadband benefit programs, maintaining responsive communication with our community partners, and providing a high level of customer service to the BeLit community.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Respond to help desk tech support inquiries and provide one-on-one digital access support for students or other callers in person, online, and / or by phone.
    • Maintain up-to-date resource guide to support community referrals for digital access needs; attend various trainings and networking meetings to support knowledge and referral resources.
    • Work closely with city funders and community partners to support digital equity initiatives, including but not limited to, PHLConnectED ACP Conversion Pilot.
    • Engage in relevant funder meetings to support program development, satisfy grant requirements, and advocate for continued resources.
    • Provide periodic reports on program outcomes to satisfy grant and BeLit requirements.
    • Support the facilitation and teaching of computer workshops for digital basics and internet fundamentals, as well as specific apps and platforms used to complete coursework online.
    • Assist learners in using general educational technology including laptops, desktops and hotspots.
    • Participate in up to 2 community events/fairs a month to promote BeLit programming and expand digital access awareness.
    • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college is required.
    • Teaching or program management background, and community engagement experience are required.
    • Prior experience teaching basic digital literacy classes and/ or low-literate adult populations is preferred.
    • Strong digital literacy and basic e-learning tools knowledge is preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, required. Bilingual, preferred.
    • Proven ability to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders across functional and organizational lines.
    • Demonstrates a high proficiency with Microsoft Office and has previous experience utilizing a database.
    • Successful candidates will be self-motivated, flexible and able to work well under pressure.
    • Requires a detail orientation as well as the ability to prioritize assignments and follow through in a timely manner, meeting deadlines.
    • Customer service focus including the ability to interface diplomatically and professionally with all levels of internal and external contacts.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
    • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Occasional flexibility with working hours required, including occasional evening and/or weekend work.
    • Ability to work onsite, from home, and on our mobile learning lab – all as needed.

    Machines/Equipment Experience

    PC, Use of Microsoft Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Word, Access, Internet searches.
