    The Senior Director of Programs position is new for CLC. It will provide a broad range of high-level support to the Co-Executive Directors, Board of Directors, and Senior Leadership team of the Community Living Campaign. This leadership position will work directly with the Co-Executive Directors to help drive effective programs, support and develop the growing staff, engage with community members and strategic partners, and nourish relationships with funders and donors. The Senior Director will be collaborative and independent, able to move with patience and clarity from strategy to implementation.

    The Senior Director can manage teams and take various assignments from concept through delivery with a high degree of self-direction, consistent follow-through, and exacting detail in all work products and relationships. A high degree of tact and diplomacy are critical in this role, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong facilitation and project leadership skills, and a “can do,” flexible style.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Strategic Planning, Analysis, and Organizational Projects

    • Serves as a thought partner and facilitator for strategic planning activities with the Senior Leadership Team, Board, and Directors
    • Performs research across a variety of subject matter areas and then synthesizes information and ideas for leadership and the board
    • Seeks out and actively recommends enhancements to quality, efficiency, and effectiveness in both programmatic and administrative operations.
    • Works with the Senior Leadership Team to identify, prioritize, and drive improvement initiatives, including requirements analysis, design, and implementation. Partners with leaders to lead key cross-departmental initiatives, including complex and sensitive projects and events that have an agency-wide impact

    Program Management & Advocacy

    • Organizes and manages select CLC programs. Takes on the day-to-day management of CLC’s current programs, including tech and home-delivered grocery.
    • Modifies and manages budgets for specific CLC programs, as agreed upon in partnership with the Co-Executive Directors.
    • Works together with the Executive Directors, CLC staff, and neighborhood leaders to carry forward CLC’s mission, advocating and building coalitions that advance the needs of seniors and people with disabilities.

    Contract Management and Reporting

    • Manages the RFP application process with the City of San Francisco, including organizing team meetings and timelines, maintaining central documents, and coordinating the process of drafting RFP language, editing, and submitting RFP proposals.
    • Manages and coordinates site visits from the Department of Aging Services and potentially other major contract holders or funders
    • Manages contracts (MOUS and supporting documentation). Supports compliance and reporting activities, such as reporting for funding site visits and generating required reports. This includes ensuring that programmatic data is collected and accurately entered into appropriate systems.

    Donor Development and Fundraising

    • With the Executive Directors, creates and maintains key relationships with potential and current agency funders, including acknowledgment letters to donors.
    • Partners with Executive Directors to develop and pursue grant opportunities, including grant writing and other donor development activities
    • Manages the grant reporting process, working directly with all directors and program leads
    • Periodically reviews contracts as needed to provide recommendations to executive leadership, who retain responsibility for signing contracts.

    Board Relations Support

    • Serves as liaison to the Board of Directors to provide, review, and follow up on all Board materials, including calendars, agendas, minutes, and correspondence.
    • Facilitates effective communication with the Board’s leadership team and with individual Board members

    Qualifications

    Candidates must offer:

    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for CLC’s mission.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, including people, time and project management, and filing/archival systems for information storage and retrieval.
    • Excellent business writing and editorial skills, including generating original materials across various business functions, including correspondence, marketing materials, meeting minutes, and staff communications.
    • Exceptional verbal communication and facilitation skills– warm, direct, engaging, and effective in all interactions. Able to strongly and effectively represent the agency with a broad host of constituencies – from participants to funders.
    • Ability to see the gifts and talents of individuals and help them grow to best meet their potential
    • Demonstrated experience listening first and promoting others’ ideas in addition to one’s own, and being inclusive, respectful, and supportive of others’ ideas and potential
    • Willingness to step in at all levels to ensure the agency's overall job gets done.
    • High proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Canva, and Constant Contact and strong working knowledge of collaborative tools like Dropbox and Google Workspace.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree in business administration, nonprofit management, law, or related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 12 years of work experience is required, ideally in nonprofit leadership or a similar field.
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing a team

    Additional experience preferred but not required:

    • Familiarity with human services and nonprofit management is strongly preferred.
    • Professional experience working with diverse communities and staff regarding race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, age, and ability. Experience with older adults and people with disabilities is a plus.

    Location

    The Senior Director must be able to work in San Francisco, where CLC is based. This is a hybrid position that includes approximately 50% work-from-home and 50% in-person. The Senior Director will be expected to meet with others at the CLC Office and in the field as needed. The candidate should live in San Francisco, California, or be within a one-hour commute to San Francisco.
