Key Responsibilities
Component Support & Development
- Act as the primary point of contact for all components, providing guidance, resources, and support on operational issues.
- Develop and implement training programs and toolkits to help components improve governance, leadership, and engagement efforts.
- Assist components in recruitment, retention, and development of members.
- Conduct regular outreach and check-ins with components to identify needs, challenges, and opportunities for growth.
- Onboard and orient new communities/chapters including leading the staff team.
Communication & Coordination
- Ensure consistent and clear communication between the national staff and local components.
- Facilitate sharing best practices and resources across components through webinars, newsletters, and other communication channels.
- Coordinate annual or biannual meetings of component leaders to share updates, gather feedback, and align strategies.
Governance & Compliance
- Review and assess the component's bylaws, policies, and governance standards to ensure compliance with current regulations and best practices.
- Conduct thorough evaluations to identify necessary updates and revisions.
- Draft and propose amendments to bylaws and policies as required, ensuring clarity and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Ensure components adhere to association bylaws, policies, and governance standards.
- Coordinate component-level elections on an annual basis and coordinate with other staff on national-level elections.
- Assist in developing budgets and activity calendars for components, helping them align their activities with the overarching goals of the association.
- Track component performance and compliance with reporting requirements (e.g., 990s, financials, membership data).
- Serve as Staff Liaison to USBG Component Committees and Volunteer Groups
Event & Program Coordination
- Support components in planning and executing local events, programs, and initiatives.
- Assist in coordinating national conferences and events, ensuring component participation and representation.
- Work with the marketing team to promote component events and activities at both the local and national levels.
Membership Engagement
- Collaborate with the membership team to drive component-based member engagement and ensure a cohesive member experience across the association.
- Analyze component membership trends and data to inform recruitment and retention strategies.
- Serve as an advocate for component members, bringing local concerns and ideas to the national team for consideration.
Budget & Financial Oversight
- Assist components with budgeting and financial management, ensuring alignment with national policies.
- Review and approve component grant requests, sponsorship applications, and funding proposals.
- Monitor component financial health and assist in addressing any issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field or 5 years of equivalent work experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in component relations, association management, or a similar role.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Experience working in a multi-component organization or association is a plus.
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance, bylaws, and compliance.
- Ability to travel for component visits, conferences, and meetings.
- Technologically proficient. Must be comfortable with virtual collaboration tools, including video conferencing software (e.g., Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams), data management/productivity platforms (e.g., Formstack, Google Workspace, Smartsheet), and cloud-based file sharing (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox). Candidates should have a strong ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues and quickly adapt to new technologies and virtual environments.
- Efficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe. Demonstrate ability to quickly create, edit, and format documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Efficient use of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar). Proven skill in leveraging Google tools to streamline collaboration, manage workflows, and meet deadlines effectively.
