Summary: The Senior Manager, Development connects the community and donors more deeply with Central Union Mission through speaking engagements, tours, customized communications, and networking opportunities for the purpose of further engaging individuals, churches, companies, and groups in volunteerism and philanthropy. This position manages the mid-level donor program (roughly defined as $1,000 - $10,000) and identifies donors who have major gift capacity and inclination.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and functions include, but are not limited to the following:
40% Stewardship and Donor Relations
- Project management oversight and detailed execution of stewardship activities including impact reports, acknowledgement, donor recognition, thank you notes, etc.
- Draft donor acknowledgments and collaborate with team members to ensure their timely and accurate completion.
- Help plan and implement donor cultivation and stewardship events (volunteer experiences, site tours, receptions, cultivation/appreciation events) for mid and major gift donors.
- Think strategically about donor engagement, providing creative solutions to develop meaningful and mutually rewarding relationships with donors at all levels.
- Field inquiries from donors about their giving. Consistently demonstrates exemplary customer service and provides excellent relationship management and prompt follow-up.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of donor correspondence in database daily.
30% Community Engagement
- Research, recommend, and implement strategies to raise the positive profile of Central Union Mission among civic, business, and church leaders in the local community.
- Educate the community through site tours and speaking engagements.
- Oversee the Volunteer program.
- Manage church partnerships in coordination with Vice President of Development.
20% Donor Relationship Management
- Manage the mid-level donor program (roughly defined as $1,000 - $10,000), strengthening relationships with current and potential donors and elevating them to increasingly higher levels of giving and engagement.
- Qualify major donor prospects and devise appropriate strategies to cultivate the relationship for a major gift solicitation.
- Utilize the database for reporting, segmenting donor groups, and noting communication.
- In partnership with the Vice President of Development, meet with individual major donors and foundation and corporation representatives for solicitation, stewardship, and reporting.
10% Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and manage the Volunteer Coordinator position.
- Select, train, and provide development opportunities, performance appraisal and coaching for direct report(s). Ensure performance of individual(s) is meeting goals.
- Special projects as assigned by Vice President of Development.
- Help ensure the Mission’s reputation and integrity remains strong and positive.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a nationally accredited university/college with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills (critical and creative writing skills).
- Highly organized with acute attention to detail and time management.
- Comfortable with public speaking and skilled at creating compelling presentations based on the audience, using examples and stories that resonate with listeners.
- Strong project management skills and deadline tracking.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Practical experience and skills with the elements articulated in this job description.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
- Experience with donor CRM software is required.
- Experience with Canva is preferred.
- A demonstrated passion for ministry and issues surrounding homelessness and poverty.
- Ability to sit or stand for sustained periods of time, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and other basic physical abilities required.
- This position requires the ability to drive one’s own car and travel at times. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, ability to travel locally within the Metro DC area.
- Agreement with and commitment to Central Union Mission’s mission and statement of faith required. Committed Christian and currently active in a local Christian church required.
