    Job Summary:

    The Regional Outreach Coordinator is responsible for building partnerships with people, organizations, businesses, and community leaders in Franklin County and nearby areas to inform and support the goal of protecting and conserving Maine’s environment. The Coordinator advances environmental priorities through place-based organizing, including bringing people together for a shared purpose, forging strategic partnerships, and supporting community-based leadership.

    The Coordinator will report to the Outreach Director and work collaboratively with the Outreach Team and other NRCM staff to help advance the conservation of Maine’s natural resources and climate change solutions. The work involves outreach with existing NRCM supporters, developing relationships with new individuals and organizations, and creating working alliances based on shared values of protecting Maine’s environment.

    Supervisor: Outreach Director

    Status: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt.

    Salary Range: $50,000- $60,000

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • Ability to work in or near Franklin County, Maine.
    • Prior experience living or working in rural communities, preferably in Maine.
    • Prior organizing, outreach, or public engagement experience, including building lasting relationships and supporting leadership development.
    • Passion for protecting the environment and Maine’s natural resources.
    • Ability to travel within the region, and to NRCM’s office in Augusta as necessary and required. The work also will require occasional evening and weekend hours (e.g., for presentations, meetings, events, etc.).
    • Strong communication and organizing skills, including persuasive writing and public speaking.
    • Ability to work independently and remotely, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.

    Preferred:

    • Prior experience with electoral and/or public interest issue campaigns.
    • Experience learning policy issues quickly and communicating complex issues in simple and persuasive terms.
    • Experience working with diverse groups, including other nonprofits, business leaders, state and local government officials, and the public.
    • Experience with digital communication programs and online platforms for advocacy, data management, and organizing.
    • Interest in traditional outdoor recreation activities such as fishing and hunting.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Lead NRCM’s efforts to develop and build lasting relationships with people in and near Franklin County, with an emphasis on values-based outreach and leadership development. Deepen NRCM’s engagement with people, organizations, businesses, elected officials, and community leaders in the region.
    • Understand and work within the region’s political landscape to build long-term support for conserving Maine’s environment and advancing climate change solutions. Work to identify common ground on issues such as water quality, fisheries restoration, habitat protection, land conservation, outdoor recreation, responding to climate change, and making our communities more sustainable and resilient.
    • Develop and engage an active and expanding network of NRCM supporters in and near Franklin County. Lead the strategic mobilization and organizing of public and stakeholder support in the region, including communication with key legislators. Recruit new activists and members through events, presentations, one-on-one conversations, and online interactions. Closely track actions and engagement in NRCM’s databases.
    • Increase NRCM’s visibility and connections with the region. Organize and attend community events and meetings that build NRCM’s presence in the region. Build partnerships with local organizations. Serve as NRCM’s representative in the region.
    • Working with the communications team, generate written materials to help maintain a high profile of major initiatives in regional news outlets and online platforms. As needed, create and contribute content for NRCM’s website, blogs, and social media channels.
    • Help develop and manage an integrated organization-wide strategy for increasing NRCM’s engagement with people in and near Franklin County with an overall focus on communities engaged in discussions about protecting Maine’s woods, waters, and wildlife.
    • Work collaboratively across all NRCM departments, including outreach, advocacy, communications, and philanthropy to support NRCM’s highest priority initiatives.
    • Work with the Outreach Director and the Outreach Team to develop annual work plans. Provide input for periodic staff reports.
