    City of Boston Residency Required

    Mission Statement

The mission of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is to work in partnership with communities to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities. The BPHC sets an expectation that all staff and leadership commit, individually and as part of the BPHC team, to hold ourselves accountable to establishing a culture of anti-racism and advance racial equity and justice through each of our bureaus, programs, and offices.

    Job Description

The Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Initiative is a cornerstone program within the Boston Public Health Commission's Office of Violence Prevention. This initiative will provide strategic leadership to design, implement, and sustain a comprehensive, city-wide public health approach to prevent domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence. This work will emphasize intersectionality, addressing the connections between various forms of violence (e.g., gun violence, community violence, family violence) and promoting equitable, community-based solutions.

The Capacity Building and Training Initiative (CBTI) is a sister program and collaborative partner of the DSVPI, since 2013. Joint activities have included co-developing multi-module Training Institutes focusing on domestic and sexual violence (as well as their intersection with other forms of violence such as community violence), racial justice and health equity, resiliency and healing for anti-violence advocates, as well as specific training partnerships related to the work of wide array of gender-based violence prevention partners. Broadly, CBTI as a program aims to prevent and address violence through promoting trauma-informed and equitable approaches among providers and systems serving children, youth and families in Boston and beyond.

In partnership with the Director, CBTI colleagues and FJC partners, the primary activities of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention Initiative's Program Manager will be to design curriculum and facilitate trainings for diverse audiences of residents and professionals; support basic evaluation activities, including data collection and analysis; manage logistics for the jointly held DSVPI and CBTI Training Institutes; support trauma-informed and equitable organizational change strategies with agency partners; and provide technical assistance to organizations in support of their learning goals.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing and facilitating training and educational workshops with adults and youth and working in programs serving residents impacted by violence and trauma. They will have a passion for envisioning how systems and organizations serving survivors of gender-based violence can better promote healing, racial justice, and avoid re-traumatization. They have familiarity with managing projects and events, including administrative and logistical details such as planning, outreach, registration, scheduling, data entry, etc. They are self-reflective and enjoy learning and working as part of a team and independently.
