    About BASEC

    The Belmont After School Enrichment Collaborative (BASEC) is a non-profit, out-of-school time organization that offers innovative programs in a setting intentionally designed to foster young people’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. We are committed to creating meaningful relationships in a rich environment of exploration and learning.

    About This Position

    We are seeking an experienced leader who is enthusiastic about working with youth, mentoring a tenured team, and leading the creation and implementation of our camp programming.

    During the school year, this position coordinates and communicates with teaching teams regarding curriculum plans and adjustments about camp routines to enhance the overall experience for children. They play a lead role in the back-end marketing, operations, and data collection in preparation for Belmont camps, as well as manage the day-to-day operations and program supervision. This includes the school vacation weeks of February and April as well as the nine weeks of summer programming. Additionally, they operate as an auxiliary staff member to our BASEC’s after school programs in Belmont and/or Maynard in a capacity best determined at time of hire.

    This position directly oversees all aspects of BASEC’s Belmont Vacation Camps. This involves supervising a team of approximately 30 staff members each week (50 staff members overall throughout the school vacation and summer camps), including Curriculum Specialists, Educators, Assistant Educators, and our administrative specialists; and is responsible for directing our camps that serve over 450 campers, ages 5-14, over the course of the year.

    The ideal candidate works well in a collaborative environment, has strong organization skills, is a decisive and compassionate leader, and is committed to creating spaces of belonging for campers, families, and staff.

    Responsibilities

    Year-Round

    • Oversee all aspects of camp programming and curriculum development, marketing, and registration in collaboration with applicable BASEC teams
    • Create and communicate staff schedules based on the needs of camp weeks and the PTO schedules of BASEC staff
    • Foster a positive and cohesive team atmosphere with staff
    • Utilize marketing tools to communicate important information and updates about upcoming and current programming to families
    • Ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations, as maintained and communicated by the Belmont Department of Health and Department of Early Education and Care
    • Develop positive relationships with stakeholders and public health officials, including our building partners and the Belmont Health Department and other town departments

    During Vacation Camp Operation Weeks

    • Be responsible for all aspects of camp preparation, training, camper and staff safety, customer service, program execution
    • Plan and implement camp staff orientation
    • Utilize the technology that fosters camper safety and program organization
    • Lead camp programming, both in our facilities and on field trips, by operating as the point person and culture-setter to campers, staff, families, and all other points of contact
    • Lead regular communication with camp families:
      • Responding to concerns and mediating conflicts
      • Sharing developmental milestones and skill development through participation in BASEC learning experiences
    • Supervise Specialists, Educators, and Assistant Educators as they implement programming, which includes:
      • Providing support, energy, motivation, and a fun and inclusive community for the camp staff
      • Ensuring lesson plans are prepared and implemented that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers
      • Observe and evaluate staff; provide feedback directly and with compassion
      • Manage concerns, complaints, and feedback and utilize appropriate documentation and reporting tools
    • Regularly review swim safety protocols and procedures with BASEC Aquatics Director
    • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs
    • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment
    • Oversee first aid administration and all other medical and emergency protocols and procedures

    Qualifications

    • Strong communication skills, with enthusiasm about working collaboratively
    • Experience using technology and the ability to organize effectively
    • Strong leadership, supervisory, and customer service skills; the ability to create and maintain partnerships with families and staff
    • A sense of humor
    • A background in education and/or experience in the out-of-school time field
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Computer literacy a must; experience with databases a plus.
    • Ability to access a variety of outdoor terrain, with the endurance to remain in programming with children for up to 9 hours in a day, and able to lift 25-30 pounds

    Compensation

    This is a full-time, full-year, salaried position.

    Work weeks outside of the operation of vacation camps will combine year-round administrative tasks for camp along with additional responsibilities as they relate to BASEC after school programs.

    Annual Salary:

    Starting at $64,000*

    *salary negotiable based on experience and responsibilities

    Work Schedule

    10:00 AM - 6:00 PM during the school year.

    40+ hours per week* during camp weeks, balanced across either 4 or 5 days.

    • Staff hours during camp weeks may begin as early as 7 AM or as late as 6 PM. Administrative coverage of the camp hours are shared between the Camp Director and Summer Camp Assistant Director and their week’s schedules are worked out between the two.
