    Youth Earth Week Campaign Organizer

    Since Earth Day was founded in 1970, students have been on the forefront of change to protect our environment. Today, we face numerous environmental crises, from climate change, to air and water pollution, to the destruction of ecosystems critical to all life on Earth. That’s why we’re hiring Campaigners to organize events across the country, calling for bold action to protect our environment and public health.

    Youth Earth Week is a project of the Student PIRGs. For nearly 50 years we’ve helped students to get organized, mobilized and energized so they can continue to be on the cutting edge of positive change.

    Key Responsibilities

    You’ll work with college campuses alongside passionate student activists as you help them develop and run strategic campaigns around protecting the environment like Saving the Right Whales, Protecting Public Lands, and Saving the Bees. You’ll also organize events for Youth Earth Week. Key responsibilities include::

    • Recruit and inspire students to take action.
    • Run campaigns to protect the environment like Saving the Whales, Saving the Bees, Clean Energy Education, and Protecting Public Lands.
    • Plan and Organize Key events during Youth Earth Week
    • Build a coalition. Work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations to take part in Youth Earth Week.
    • Train students to be effective social change leaders, using skills such as generating grassroots support and coordinating lobby days and news conferences.

    Qualifications

    We’re looking for candidates who

    • Have an interest in environmental issues and have leadership experience on a campus or in your community.
    • Are looking for a short-term position to learn the ropes of organizing on important issues and are passionate about training the next generation of student leaders.
    • Are goal-driven and results-oriented.
    • Have excellent communication skills.
    • Are driven, work well with all kinds of people, and aren’t afraid to get outside their comfort zones.
    • Are passionate about making positive change. Change takes time, and is often incremental; we’re looking for people who are excited to work hard every day, even if it’s just for one small step in the right direction.

    Compensation and Benefits

    This position is approximately 3-4 months. Pay and benefits are prorated for the length of your position, based on this target annual package: The target annual compensation range for this position is $37,000-$43,347 and depends on location, experience, and start date. Our benefits package for short-term staff includes medical insurance for employees and dependents after 90 days on staff, paid sick time (60-72 hours/year depending on location, prorated for the length of your position), and a commuter benefit program. We also offer excellent training and opportunities for advancement.

    We’re hiring organizers to work on college campuses in Arizona, California, Connecticut, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington state, and Wisconsin.
