    Descripción

    The Youth Program Coordinator will have the opportunity to support The Common Acre’s yearly youth programming. TCA’s Youth program is a program that engages and builds with youth ages 13-24 who are interested in learning about plants, food and land topics. Program activities include a paid internship, native plant education, field trips, opportunities to contribute to local food and land projects, and other activities throughout the year. The Youth Program Coordinator will primarily be supporting with program planning and implementation.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Outreach & Enrollment

    • Conduct yearly program recruitment with current and prospective schools, groups and organizations.
    • Support with communicating program information to participants and their families. Working with interpreters to convey information in participants’ languages.

    Program Planning and Implementation

    • Facilitate and lead a culturally relevant youth-centered program for ages 13-24 on topics related to: restoration, native plants, gardening, and activities that align with grant contracts.
    • Assist with general youth programming coordination such as maintaining participant forms and attendance sheets; addressing facility issues; report and document incidents and administer first aid as necessary.
    • Adapt and develop new place-based activities in alignment with Black and Indigenous place-based philosophies and standards as needed.
    • Educate youth program participants on designing workshops based on their interests, and supporting youth to facilitate workshops at monthly work parties
    • Coordinate with the Program Manager to schedule Spanish, Portuguese and Lingala interpretation for the youth program when needed.
    • Schedule contractors to design and facilitate workshops for the youth program.

    Program Monitoring and Evaluation

    • Facilitate data collection and required reporting including program evaluation and collecting program input from youth participants.

    Land Management & Infrastructure Maintenance

    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of program supplies and equipment
    • Assist with ongoing garden maintenance of Native plant hedgerow, container gardens, and soil remediation projects; contribute to upkeep and operations.
    • Collaborate with Program Manager & Program Director with creating monthly community work parties on program site

    Other Responsibilities

    • Meet regularly with the Program Manager, and Program Director.
    • Support the Program Manager and Program Director with sustaining The Common acre’s community partners.
    • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the organization.
    • Support events and other duties related to being a member of the The Common Acre staff, such as attending staff meetings, supporting events, providing written material, collaborating with other programs, and serving on optional committees (as approved)

    Skills

    Required Skills

    • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, Horticulture, Education, or a related field OR any combination of education and experience necessary to fulfill the minimum job requirements
    • Experience leading outdoor and/or garden education programming for BIPOC youth and community members.
    • Experience public speaking in front of a large ethnically and linguistically diverse audience. Our work parties and youth prorgam are often held in multiple languages.
    • Hands-on experience with gardening/farming, environmental stewardship, Native plant restoration.
    • Demonstrated ability and success working with people from a variety of racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
    • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
    • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
    • Ability to problem solve and work in dynamic settings.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Self-directed and able to work independently as well as with a team
    • Able to transport self and materials by car to programming locations.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds.

    Desired Skills

    • Skills in art, music, and other creative pursuits
    • Demonstrated success working with non-English speaking communities
    • Proficiency teaching in another language desired (Spanish preferred)
    • Teaching Certification is a definite plus.

    Ability to commute required

    • Seattle, Wa: Reliably commute (Required)
    • Valid Washington State Drivers License and a vehicle
