    SUMMARY

    The Development Specialist serves as a partner to support the Executive Director in achieving the mission of Thompson-Markward Hall (TMH), by sustaining a professional environment that values and delivers teamwork and excellent customer service. The Development Specialist is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program and building a dynamic alumni engagement program. The Development Specialist will work closely with the Executive Director on fundraising initiatives and activities, outreach, and alumni relations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITES

    Fundraising Program Management

    • Assist the Executive Director with the execution of fundraising events, alumni relations and fundraising programs to meet the goals of the organization.
    • Support the development of and manage a donor stewardship plan.
    • Manage the donor and alumni database to ensure accurate records and personalized outreach.
    • Coordinate donor communications, including newsletters, appeals, and annual reports.
    • Work with leadership to identify new funding opportunities and strategies for donor growth.
    • Remain current with fundraising best practices and trends.

    Alumni Relations

    • Build and manage a dynamic alumni engagement strategy to foster lifelong relationships with current and former residents.
    • Develop a strategy for welcoming alumni back to TMH and provide training to the resident support team to ensure positive, constructive interactions between staff and alumni.
    • Partner with Executive Director to create and produce a quarterly alumni newsletter.
    • Plan and execute alumni events and volunteer opportunities.
    • Partner with Resident Services Manager and team of Resident Assistants to execute resident events with a focus on an exceptional resident life experience.
    • Represent TMH in the community and implement activities and events to maintain and promote alumni interest and support.
    • Track and evaluate alumni data and provide written reports as needed.

    Communication and Outreach

    • Create and execute communication and marketing strategies to promote TMH’s mission.
    • Develop and maintain compelling content for newsletters, websites, and social media platforms, including providing guidance to the TMH Digital Content Producer to ensure clear and consistent messaging and engagement for all aspects of the organization.
    • Ensure growth opportunities by developing relationships and outreach strategies to increase awareness about TMH.
    • Cultivate and foster relationships with the community organizations and TMH partners to deliver positive results.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. Must provide excellent customer service, high ethical standards with professional appearance and demeanor, and embrace fulfilling the company’s mission focused work are required. The following attributes are essential for the position:

    • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, and other software.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail are required.
    • Self-motivated, ability to manage multiple projects, and creative and innovative mindset.
    • Demonstrated project management skills, relationship management, negotiation, persuasiveness, and diplomacy skills.
    • Ability to adapt and flex with changing schedules, work efficiently, and respond proactively to residents, managers, staff, alumni, and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Relations, or related field is required.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience working as a Development Specialist or within a nonprofit is required.
    • Experience working in fund development, alumni relations, and nonprofit industry are required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Thompson-Markward Hall complies with the ADAAA and considers reasonable accommodations measures may be necessary for eligible employees to perform the essential functions of the job.

    • Primary functions performed are sitting, working a computer keyboard that involves typing and other hand movements. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying packages up to 25 lb., climbing stairs, climbing ladders and other movements may be required on an infrequent basis.
    • Monday to Friday 9AM to 5PM and some evenings and weekends may be required.
    • This is an at-will, full-time, exempt 40 hours per week position.
