    General Description:

    Urban Peace Institute (UPI) is seeking a talented and motivated Digital Content Coordinator to assist with the organization’s growing social media presence and communications efforts. The position is an essential Communications team member who will focus on creating engaging original content to support UPI’s advocacy efforts and strategic initiatives. The Coordinator is responsible for creating informative and innovative social media content, supporting the development of a robust social media strategy, and creating digital assets.

    The ideal candidate must be able to multi-task, work in team and independent settings, and have excellent graphic design and copy writing skills. Ideal candidates also have a passion for social justice issues and/or interest in gaining a deeper understanding.

    Urban Peace Institute is currently following a full-time hybrid schedule, with at least 2 days in the office required weekly, (4 days in office are required for the first month of employment). Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed is required.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Work closely with the Communications Manager to design and implement a comprehensive social media strategy
    • Develop innovative social media content using videos/reels and graphic design
    • Maintain organization’s presence on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and YouTube
    • Attend UPI events and community events to capture photos and videos, and provide other support as needed
    • Collaborate with all UPI staff to gain photo and video content for communications needs, including conducting basic photography and videography
    • Edit and produce visual content in response to breaking news and events
    • Support with copy writing and design for website, social media/digital advocacy campaigns, and email campaigns
    • Stay up to date with current trends in digital media and incorporate innovative approaches in content creation
    • Track social media and website analytics and maintain monthly reports to share with Communications Manager and other key staff
    • Maintain social media/content calendar
    • Assist with website maintenance and regular updates
    • Create/design organizational and development collateral
    • Other duties and design projects as needed

    Qualifications:

    • Experience in digital content creation, social media management or similar field; nonprofit experience preferred
    • Bachelor’s degree/graduate degree and/or 2-4 years relevant professional experience
    • Proficiency in Adobe Suite including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, as well as Canva, Google Workspace, and WordPress
    • Excellent storytelling skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in an engaging and accessible manner
    • Knowledge of photography, videography, editing, and graphic design
    • Strong understanding of social media platforms and their respective best practices
    • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Self-motivated with strong writing, analytical, and communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
    • A passion for the Urban Peace Institute’s mission and vision
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and a disposition to work in an organization focused on civil rights and equity
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse people across the spectrum of socio-economic status, race, ethnicity and gender orientation
