    With the goal of attracting proven candidates who aspire to advance our mission, CSH is now accepting applications for its Managing Director, Western Region to lead CSH’s work throughout 14 western states. This position oversees six Field Operations teams (San Diego, Los Angeles, California Policy, Southwest, Mountain West, and Northwest) as well as regional consulting, and has a staff of 32 FTEs. This senior leadership position oversees an $8.5M annual operating budget, regional operations of fundraising, financial management, human resources, and staff deployment as well as strategic decision-making and leadership in the implementation of CSH’s strategic plan.

    Candidates must live in or be willing to move to the Western Region near a major airport with a preference for San Diego, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Bay Area, CA; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; Las Vegas, NV; Phoenix, AZ; Denver, CO; Honolulu, HI. The position may be based in a CSH office or a home office depending upon the location of the selected candidate.

    What you will do:

    Reporting to the Vice President of Field Operations, the Western Region Managing Director will be a valued and integral part of the senior management team. Specific responsibilities include:

    • Provide strategic vision and thought leadership to CSH’s work to identify, create, broaden, and engage in multi-sector leadership in housing and services across the western states.
    • Oversee administration of six Field Operations teams and regional consulting by providing direct supervision and strategic advice for Directors. Set realistic performance goals and monitor the financial performance of teams.
    • In partnership with CSH’s Fund Development team, support local Field Directors in fundraising and business development, ensuing on-time, and on-budget philanthropic and consulting project budgets and deliverables throughout the region.
    • Deepen and cultivate effective, collaborative working relationships with leaders of philanthropic, government, and community-based organizations and people with lived experience to engage in multi-sector leadership and investment in existing and new housing and services to ensure sustainability and growth of supportive housing.
    • As part of CSH’s Senior Leadership Team, provide briefings on the status and performance of CSH regional operations, offering input on relevant policy changes and helping to resolve operational issues with other CSH units.
    • Oversee the annual regional work plan and budget creation and monitoring.
    • Participate in policy and lending efforts in cities and states across the region.
    • Assist with efforts to protect and expand public and private mainstream systems of care in collaborative design and funding of integrated housing and service programs.
    • Determine project staffing needs and manage staff deployment throughout the region.
    • Establish mechanisms and tools to ensure that all offices are providing a consistent level of high-quality services.
    • Ensure the region meets annual and longer-term performance outcomes in support of CSH’s strategic plan.

    Specifically, we are seeking:

    • 10 years experience in supportive housing, affordable housing development, healthcare, justice, policy analysis and/or related fields.
    • 10 years management experience in non-profit and/or government position(s) managing multiple teams and/or complex projects.
    • Demonstrated high-level decision-making and mentoring capabilities.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with government agencies, partners, associations, and community-based organizations to promote CSH Areas of focus may include policy analysis, advocacy, and strategic planning related to supportive housing finance, health care, behavioral health, and/or human services.
    • Skilled in facilitation, team building, and developing and maintaining strong relationships within the supportive housing community, and in convening and engaging people from diverse groups and sectors.
    • Strong computer skills. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • CSH uses a Microsoft Office environment. Proficiency and a commitment to self-learn and achieve proficiency upon hire are required.
    • Candidates seeking to work remotely or hybrid must provide their own access to a secure high-speed internet signal (preferably hard-wired) at a capacity sufficient to support video, web, and email processing simultaneously based on their personal work environment. This is typically 100 MB and above.
    • Frequent regional travel and occasional national travel required.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

    CSH offers generous benefits, opportunities for professional growth, and competitive salaries based on geographic location. Our range for Managing Director is:

    • Managing Director in highest geography (E.G. San Francisco, Seattle) $167,000 - $209,000
    • Managing Director in mid-range geography (E.G. Los Angeles, San Diego, Denver, Sacramento) $151,000 - $189,000
    • Managing Director in lower mid-range geography (E.G. Portland, Las Vegas, Ewa Beach) $143,000 - $179,000
    • Managing Director in low-range geography (E.G. Phoenix) $132,000 - $165,000

    Our ranges are broad, and it is customary for candidates to join CSH at the lower half of the range to leave room for growth, learning, and development in the role and range. It is uncommon for starting salaries to fall above the mid-point. We negotiate actual salaries with final candidates based on their exact location, experience in similar roles, and expertise related to the qualifications.
