    TEMPORARY: Math/ELA/Field Studies Summer Learning Facilitator

    We link high-potential Black students in Chicago to the path to, through, and beyond college. For Black students to become tomorrow’s leaders they must have access to educational resources and tools today. LINK’s goal is to mitigate the effect of systemic and structural forces impeding Black students by improving and increasing educational opportunities and access. By equipping our Scholars with the knowledge, skills, resources, and social equity that further college completion and career placement, LINK is increasing the economic mobility and stability of Black students and cultivating a diverse leadership pipeline for our city.

    Since 1966, we have successfully supported over 2,500 low- to moderate-income students. In the 2024-25 academic year, we served 250+ middle and high schoolers. Our Scholars represent more than 60 Chicagoland neighborhoods, with a focus on supporting ten South and West Side communities: Auburn Gresham, Austin, Bronzeville, Englewood, Garfield Park, Greater Grand Crossing, North Lawndale, Roseland, South Shore, and Washington Park.

    Position Summary

    As an integral part of the Summer Learning team, the Summer Learning Facilitator is responsible for delivering lessons/programming as a part of our leadership development and academic programming on Monday-Thursdays. Summer Learning facilitators work directly with our Scholars to ensure that they are receiving, discussing, and understanding the material and facilitators are curating a rigorous experience. Summer Learning sessions will focus on grade-level content geared to preparing Scholars academically for their Math or ELA courses in the upcoming year. Additionally, one day each week will be allocated for exploratory learning that will include site visits and field trips around the Chicagoland area. During such programming, Summer Learning Facilitators will serve as chaperones and support Scholars in preparing for, engaging in and reflecting on their experience. All materials are provided for instruction and will be sent to Facilitators ahead of sessions to allow for ample time to internalize the lesson and prepare for execution. Summer Learning Facilitators will collaborate with and report to the Managing Director, Scholar Support.

    Instruction/Grading

    • Deliver instruction according to the lesson plans during each day of Summer Learning.
    • Support as chaperone during off-site Summer Learning Programming.
    • Support and build relationships with the assigned cohort of Scholars as they engage in programming.
    • Assist with receiving Scholars and dismissing Scholars from programming daily.
    • Take daily attendance and report requested data thoroughly and according to LINK timelines and due dates.
    • Grade/score assignments, pre-assessments and post-assessments.
    • Ensure all Scholars in the assigned cohort complete both summative assessments.

    Planning/Preparation

    • Review provided academic materials to internalize the lesson plans and prepare as necessary to deliver instruction.
    • Attend one mandatory orientation meeting and regular office hour meetings to attain necessary clarity around lesson execution, programming participation, and any time sensitive program updates.
    • Attend Daily Morning Huddles to check-in and gather daily materials.
    • Track and assess Scholar assignment completion and participation.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree REQUIRED.
      • Bachelor’s degree in education, social/human services, counseling, social work or related field preferred.
    • Experience working with urban youth, specifically Black youth preferred.
    • Previous teaching/instructional experience required, ideally in the content area of desired instruction (ex. in-school time, after-school programs, summer programs). Evidence of teaching experience will be requested.
    • Ability to interface effectively with 7th-12th grade Scholars, parents, and volunteers.
    • Availability on all instructional days (ex. M-Th 8:30a-2p depending on assigned grade level)
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Work Schedule/Commitments

    • Contractual/Part-Time; Monday-Thursday, 8:30a-1:15p (for 12th grade Facilitators- 8:30a- 2:15p).
    • Orientation in early June with multiple date options TBA, in-person session.
    • Summer Learning Start Date: July 7th, 2025; Summer Learning End Date: July 31st, 2025

    Compensation

    Facilitators will be compensated $2,500. This role is not eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance or any other benefits.
