    Background:

    The Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing access to medical care for underprivileged and medically underserved families around the world. Since its founding in 2003, FIMRC has partnered with local communities to provide medical care, education, and public health initiatives, focusing on primary care, maternal and child health, nutrition, and health education. Through volunteer-driven programs and collaborations with local governments and healthcare providers, FIMRC strives to create sustainable healthcare solutions and reduce healthcare disparities. By engaging volunteers and healthcare professionals, FIMRC aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable populations and empower local communities to build stronger health systems.

    Project Bududa currently consists of a licensed and registered level 3 health center serving 30,000+ patients per year, and an outreach team that complements the clinical aspect of the Project through community education, mobile clinics, and other initiatives. In addition to its staff of 30+ Ugandan healthcare professionals, the Project also hosts 50+ international volunteers and interns every year to support the ongoing site operations.

    Description:

    FIMRC is seeking candidates for a Field Operations Manager position in Bududa District, eastern Uganda to oversee operations for its clinic and outreach-based programs and staff of 30+ local professionals.

    The Field Operations Manager (FOM) is responsible for furthering the Project’s track record of success, keeping site operations running smoothly, and ensuring Project goals are met. Specific responsibilities will include:

    • Volunteer Management:
      • Coordinate the Global Health Volunteer Program (“GHVP”) for all volunteers traveling to Bududa in conjunction with FIMRC’s Director of Volunteer Programs (USA-based);
      • Work with project staff to develop unique itineraries for our international volunteers based on skill level, time in country, and interests;
      • Coordinate the health education program and community campaigns with GHVP volunteers;
      • Act as a key resource for GHVP volunteers, providing in-depth knowledge of the Ugandan healthcare system and the specific needs of the communities in which FIMRC operates; and
      • Coordinate all transportation, housing and dietary requests for GHVP Volunteers.
    • Clinic Management:
      • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with local agencies and organizations in conjunction with the Clinic team;
      • Assist the Clinic team as needed;
      • Track and acquire clinic supplies;
      • Maintain all medical records related to the project, track all children served, and complete official reports to be sent to the national office, including the Monthly Project Report; and
      • Work with the community groups to explain and interpret FIMRC programs and policies.
    • Project Management:
      • Manage and conduct fiscal operations, including accounting, budget planning, authorizing expenditures, and coordinating financial reporting;
      • Monitor the use of services to ensure effective use of resources for all projects;
      • Design and implement community outreach programs to further FIMRC’s mission within the community;
      • Create systems to effectively monitor and evaluate community outreach programs in the community and make necessary changes based upon the results;
      • Manage strategic partnerships with local entities to improve the GHVP program and services offered to community members; and
      • Manage all regulatory compliance requirements and ensure all proper permits, licenses, registrations and other legal requirements are always up to date.
    • Other Duties:
      • Comply with all FIMRC policies according to the Employee Code of Conduct, which the Employee has signed and is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety;
      • Comply with all laws of Uganda while a resident in that country; and
      • Report to FIMRC HQ on any significant actions.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Previous management experience working with large (40+ member teams) interprofessional teams, preferably in a healthcare setting.
    • Previous experience working in East Africa.
    • Previous experience working with multinational teams spread across multiple continents, both remotely and in-person.
    • Previous experience in and willingness to work long-term in remote and resource-limited environments.
    • Substantial (5+ years) administrative experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal writing skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Former Peace Corps Volunteers STRONGLY preferred.
    • Experience working with American and UK high school / university/ professional volunteers, interns, and/or staff will be considered a major plus.
    • Previous experience working in community-based healthcare settings.
    • Previous experience working under grant-funded initiatives.
    • Previous experience working in Uganda (specifically Eastern) and knowledge of cultural and political landscape within the country, experience liaising with the Ugandan government a plus.
    • Basic photography skills.
