About. AOK Mentoring & Tutoring started in 2003 with a few volunteers and an idea. Our founders had mentored children for decades and understood the power of bringing together trusted adults and young students. In the most recent school year, the organization supported 350 Howard County public school students. Volunteer mentor/tutors are the heart of our work, and the executive director recruits, trains, supports, and matches volunteers and mentees while also overseeing all aspects of the nonprofit operations.

Summary. The AOK Mentoring & Tutoring Executive Director is responsible for the high-level strategy of the organization as well as the details that keep the organization delivering its mission. Though AOK is a remote workplace, the Director will need to be in Howard County Maryland several times each month, or more. The hourly wage for this role is $30/hour. Hours are expected to be 20-30 hours/week.
Responsibilities. The executive director will:
a. Develop and track the annual budget.
b. Review and monitor organization’s finances.
c. Write checks; make deposits; assist bookkeeper with financial reporting
d. Become an ex officio member of the Board of Directors
and recognition of volunteers
other community program liaisons; and addressing day to day operations of the
Program.
a. Implement an annual fundraising plan.
b. Establish new policies and procedures as needed.
c. Implement a Community Relations plan for organization and represent AOK within the community and on social media
d. Adhere to the Strategic Planning initiatives of the organization
And other duties as assigned by the board of directors.
Qualifications:
Details. The Director must be able to attend in-person meetings in Howard County several times per month or more often. However, AOK is a fully-remote workplace with the option to leverage libraries and schools as needed. The employee will perform services on the telephone, on the internet, and at such other places as necessary. Personal transportation or ability to use shared transportation options within Howard County is required. Lifting up to 50lbs is required at times.
