    Position: Director, Human Resources and Employee Experience

    Department: Executive

    Reports to: Chief People and Culture Officer

    Hours: Full-Time

    Salary: $90,000 - $120,000

    FLSA: Exempt

    Location: On-site; with potential of remote 1-day week

    Position Summary:

    As a thought-partner for Union Settlement’s senior leadership and leadership teams, the Director, Human Resources and Employee Experience will help guide organizational strategies and initiatives through a combination of HR administration, operational, strategic leadership, and change management and optimization functions. Working with the Chief People and Culture Officer (CPCO), the Director, Human Resources and Employee Experience directs Union Settlement's human resource functions, including ensuring the development and implementation of strategy, programs and processes. As a key member of Senior and Leadership Teams, they will lead and champion initiatives that cultivate a work environment where employees feel valued and supported, are highly engaged, and are successful.

    Responsibilities:

    Organizational Culture

    • Oversee the people team to include HR and Payroll, Specialists, and external resources (consultants, benefit broker, etc.) to carry out day-today people operations.
    • Serves on Union Settlement’s Senior and Leadership teams to set organization-wide strategy and develop operating plans.
    • Partners with senior leaders to identify, prioritize, and implement key initiatives that drive org-wide efforts to deliver best-in-class employee experience.
    • Engages and facilitates People and Culture related decision-making processes (e.g.: hiring, promotions, and resource allocation) with Leadership Team.
    • Facilitate input from senior team members in creating feedback channels to maintain an open and fluid effective feedback culture; create and/or contribute tools, materials and resources to help leaders successfully build action plans based on results.

    HR Administration

    • Provide proactive leadership and professional expertise in all areas of human resources management, including talent, benefits, payroll, employee relations, compliance, and learning and development.
    • Oversee the people team to include HR and Payroll, Specialists, and external resources (consultants, insurance broker, etc.) to carry out day-today people operations.
    • Develop processes for compliance-related areas and management of personnel files while ensuring maintenance.
    • Create systems and processes to track employee engagement to better understand performance, opportunities, and challenges.
    • Manages key HR data and important organizational trends to monitor and improve performance.
    • In collaboration with HR Team complete team metrics, state and compliance related reports, surveys, and questionnaires and documentation requests (EEO Data, OSHA, Workforce Survey, Demographic Data, Disability Certificates, invoicing, etc.).

    Employee Relations and Performance Management

    • Provide open, honest, and appropriate feedback to peers, subordinates, and management to help them improve; capitalize on opportunities to build a culture of continuous feedback and improvement.
    • Establish employment practices that are legally compliant, meet or exceed Union Settlement’s values and standards of fairness and equity, and foster a diverse and inclusive environment.
    • Develop positive relationships with union representatives and serves as a liaison between union, employees and organization; manages grievance proceedings and consults with legal.
    • Evolve the current performance review process to further enable managers to provide meaningful and actionable reviews.
    • Develop systems and strategies that drive continuous learning; create opportunities for training, coaching, advising, and mentoring to drive performance.

    Talent and Learning and Development

    • Define and execute recruiting brand, sourcing and retention strategy to attract employees.
    • Establish partnerships and alliances with institutions/vendors to broaden HR’s reach; advance strategic initiatives for organizational effectiveness.
    • Collaborate with leaders to grow diverse leadership, talent, and technical capability pipeline; infuse orientation and onboarding activities.
    • Assess, plan, develop, and deliver training activities and programs in collaboration with Leadership Team.
    • Work with Supervisors to troubleshoot and isolate performance gaps, select appropriate interventions and assess impact for continuous process improvement goals.

    Benefits and Other Total Rewards

    • Evaluate effectiveness of current benefits and compensation programs including medical, dental, vision, life/accident/disability insurance, EAP, and wellness initiatives, policies and guidelines, while ensuring they are market competitive, cost effective and aligned with Union Settlement’s goals.
    • Lead, manage, and administer the benefits function working with HR Team members; develop an effective strategy for benefits enrollment during open enrollment periods.
    • Oversight of employee leaves of absence including FMLA, PFL, disability, and workers’ compensation.
    • Oversight in conjunction with HR & Payroll Associate of timely payment of monthly premiums, compensation and reimbursement procedures as needed.
    • Research, develop, and make ongoing recommendations for a sustainable engagement, rewards and recognition program.
    • Provide guidance on payroll management, compensation structures and practices, and compliance.
    • Seek opportunities for wellness education and initiatives to promote a healthy and safe workplace.

    Change Management and Optimization

    • Provide back-up support functions in any of key departmental areas as necessary.
    • Collaborate in engagements as assigned internally and externally through speaking engagements and facilitating special events.
    • Support initiatives designed to optimize function and streamline practices.
    • Participate in meetings, taskforces and workgroups both internally and externally in conjunction with the CPCO or in representation of.
    • Keep a pulse on current labor relations trends, regulatory requirements, and HR practices to recommend programs, improve employee experience, and remain compliant.
    • Other duties based on organizational needs.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with specialization in human resources management, business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, or related field; equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered with extensive specialized experience.
    • Minimum of (5) years of progressive HR experience, moat preferably in a generalist capacity; Human Resources Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP or higher) or interest is a plus; management experience.
    • Employee relations and resolution experience with ability to build credibility and be sought as a trusted advisor; union experience a plus.
    • Demonstrated experience building internal and external relationships, with the ability find common ground, build consensus and strengthen collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
    • Unquestioned personal and professional integrity; ability to handle matters of confidentiality with utmost tact and diplomacy.
    • Ability to develop strategies for assessing, attracting and retaining talented personnel.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of HR policies and federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to, EEO, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, Title VII, and FMLA.
    • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with attention to strategic and tactical details.
    • Proficiency using business software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, ATS/HRIS – ADP Workforce Now, and data and training platforms.
    • Experience in data tracking, analysis, trend forecasting and using metrics to identify vulnerabilities and drive organizational improvements.
