    The Medicare Rights Center (www.medicarerights.org) is a national, nonprofit consumer service organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs, and public policy initiatives. Medicare Rights’ unique blend of service, education, and advocacy ensures that real consumer experiences reach the highest levels of policymaking and that policies and laws adopted at state and federal levels are translated for consumers and effectively implemented. Each year, Medicare Rights answers more than three million questions for older adults and people with disabilities through a helpline and online assistance and collaborates with diverse stakeholders to improve the Medicare program.

    The Position—Communications Associate

    Medicare Rights is seeking a full-time Communications Associate. This person will report to the Director of Communications & Digital Strategy and work to increase the visibility of Medicare Rights’ national helpline, online educational resources, and policy work.

    Specific Responsibilities

    Activities to be pursued by the Communications Associate include the following:

    • Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, responding to media inquiries, and coordinating interviews.
    • Monitor media coverage, track industry trends, and prepare reports on communication campaign performance.
    • Provide writing, editing, and proofreading support for various public communications, including press releases, email campaigns, blog posts, and other marketing materials.
    • Assist in the development of visual content, including presentations, infographics, explainer videos, and marketing materials.
    • Support the planning, organizing, and promotion of events such as conferences, product launches, and press events.
    • Support the development of internal communications strategies to keep employees informed about key initiatives and updates.
    • Help coordinate special projects as needed and other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, organized team player. Specific qualifications include the following:

    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
    • Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to adapt styles for different audiences.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen well and positively represent the organization and its mission.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and stay on deadline.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Skills in design software (e.g., Canva and Photoshop), content management systems (e.g., WordPress), and social media platforms.
    • Empathetic and committed to Medicare Rights’ mission and values.

    A hybrid work schedule is envisioned, and New York City residence is preferred but not required. Salary is commensurate with experience. Salary from $43,000 to $48,000 per year. The Medicare Rights Center offers a generous benefits package.
