    Location: Position will be based in our Chicago office. SUMC follows a hybrid remote/in-person model, allowing staff to work remotely most days and requiring office visits weekly or bi-weekly.

    Salary Range: $75,000 - $87,500 depending on qualifications

Our mission is to connect and empower change leaders advancing people-centered shared mobility systems to fight climate change, advance equity, and strengthen communities. We are seeking a dynamic Engagement Strategy Manager to join our Partnerships & Engagement (P&E) Team to advance our strategic priorities and drive meaningful engagement within our network.

    Position Overview:

    The Engagement Strategy Manager will play a pivotal role in nurturing and expanding SUMC’s community of change leaders. This individual will be responsible for developing an engagement strategy that connects our networks, promotes solidarity, and builds a sense of community with and among individuals, organizations and networks dedicated to improving mobility options. The strategy should leverage and integrate our Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda, National Shared Mobility Summit and other ongoing events, Mobility Hub newsletter, and social media channels. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and strategic thinking skills with a strong background in engagement strategies to build connection and cohesion across a membership and partnership base.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Develop and Implement Engagement Strategy:

    • Create and execute a comprehensive strategy to engage and expand SUMC’s community of change leaders that aligns with SUMC’s strategic plan and supporting brand strategy
    • Develop goals and metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of engagement strategies
    • Integrate Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda, National Shared Mobility Summit, Mobility Hub newsletter, social media channels, and SUMC programs into a comprehensive engagement strategy

    Monitor and Analyze Engagement:

    • Help design a framework to track and analyze satisfaction, engagement and participation metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and initiatives.
    • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and adjust tactics based on feedback and performance data to continuously improve engagement efforts

    Organize and Support Events:

    • Help design and ideate on innovative virtual and in-person SUMC hosted events that cultivate community, collaboration and meaningful connections
    • Project manage SUMC hosted events including the National Shared Mobility Summit, local events, and online learning and coordinate with SUMC staff hosting programmatic events to align with our strategy

    Manage the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda:

    • Lead the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda strategy to drive growth by developing targeted outreach and engagement strategies
    • Coordinate with SUMC staff focused on member engagement and recruitment
    • Coordinate SUMC team members who facilitate working groups to understand the success of working groups and ways to improve engagement and community building within those meetings

    Coordinate Communication Channels:

    • Coordinate with other SUMC team members who lead peer-to-peer, cohort-based learning programs, content developers for the Mobility Learning Center
    • Work closely with P&E content creator on disseminating content across social media, and the Mobility Hub newsletter, and SUMC website to align on strategy goals and messaging
    • Guide content creator on compelling campaign tactics and messages that drive participation in events and initiatives.
    • Guide content creator on the use of storytelling and content creation to highlight community successes, share member experiences, and showcase the impact of collective efforts.

    Promote Equity-Centered Practices:

    • Promote inclusivity and respect in all interactions, addressing any barriers to participation and ensuring equitable access to opportunities.
    • Ensure diverse voices and perspectives are represented and included in activities and decision-making processes.
    • Focus on the development of strong relationships with equity-focused organizations
    • Continuously educate oneself and the team on best practices for engaging with different cultural and social groups.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, social sciences nonprofit management, urban studies, business administration or a related field (or equivalent experience). Master’s degree preferred.
    • Master’s degree in a relevant field and 4+ years of experience in community building, engagement, or a related role, preferably within a nonprofit or social change organization OR Bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience
    • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful engagement strategies.
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
    • Proficiency in data analysis and ability to translate metrics into actionable insights
    • Proficiency in database management (CRM systems) and engagement tracking tools
    • Knowledge and understanding of brand strategy
    • Understanding of social media management and content creation
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for community engagement and resource dissemination.
    • Experience in the nonprofit or mobility sector is a plus

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with shared mobility concepts and urban transportation issues
    • Experience working with equity-focused organizations and initiatives and an understanding of equity-centered practices in engagement.
    • Experience with event planning and management
    • Demonstrated ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to complex engagement challenges.
    • Familiarity with systems thinking and applying it to community and organizational contexts.
