    Position Overview:

    The Capital Area Food Bank is looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Director of Warehouse Operations to join our team and provide process improvement leadership. As the Senior Director of Warehouse Operations, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring the warehouse’s day to day operations (55-60 operations staff) to maximize efficiency and productivity throughout our service area including DC and Lorton, VA facilities. The Senior Director will work to ensure all staff executes against SOPs for each stage of the supply chain, including improving processes, preparing and analyzing reports, sharing data across different departments, and root causing any challenges that may arise. The Senior Director will ensure that all Operations managers and teams are well equipped to achieve their goals and targets, and that the warehouse meets all compliance requirements. This role will also serve as a liaison between Operations, Food Resources, Compliance, Analytics, and Programs at the food bank, ensuring that all programmatic decisions are made with an Operations lens at the table. The Senior Director of Operations must have experience using warehouse management and inventory platforms such as NetSuite and WAERLinx.

    Essential Functions:

    Management Oversight (40%)

    • Oversee operational departments (receiving, pulling, inventory, transportation), ensuring smooth and efficient processes across both the DC and VA facilities.
    • Provide guidance, training, and coaching for department managers, fostering leadership and collaboration, and empowering teams to operate independently while achieving departmental goals.
    • Establish staffing plans, schedules, and cross training ensuring appropriate resource allocation to meet operational needs, while fostering a positive team culture.
    • Lead internal Operations meetings to address challenges, set goals, and communicate important updates to the team.
    • Oversee facility maintenance and operational efficiency of all systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and all other systems, ensuring compliance with all maintenance plans and safety standards.
    • Oversee fleet management, ensuring efficient processes in line with organizational requirements.

    Data Analysis (30%)

    • Work closely with our data analytics staff to monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to warehouse operations, such as inventory, waste, order fulfillment rates, overtime, stock levels, and distribution timelines.
    • Perform deep dives into operational data, conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses to identify trends, root causes of issues, and areas for process improvement.
    • Use data to forecast and prepare for operational needs, ensuring that food volume, frequency, and product mix are optimized in collaboration with the Food Resources team.
    • Work closely with analytics teams to improve data sharing across departments, enhancing decision-making processes within the warehouse operations.
    • Leverage data-driven insights to recommend and implement strategic operational improvements that will enhance efficiency and productivity.

    Compliance & Process Improvement (20%)

    • Ensure compliance with all warehouse safety regulations, including OSHA standards, while administering a comprehensive Safety Program to safeguard staff and volunteers.
    • Develop and maintain a Food Safety Program to meet AIB Food Safety Standards, ensuring proper handling, storage, and distribution of food items across the service area.
    • Continuously refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all operational functions, ensuring that warehouse teams follow best practices and industry standards.
    • Regularly audit inventory through cycle counts, operational processes to ensure they meet organizational policies, external compliance requirements, and efficiency benchmarks.
    • Implement corrective action plans for any identified risks or non-compliance issues, ensuring timely resolution to minimize disruptions to operations.
    • Ensure proper documentation and reporting to maintain transparency and accountability in warehouse operations especially government programs, including tracking food donations and the flow of inventory.
    • Collaborate with the COO and other leadership cross functionally to develop and implement solutions to operational challenges, ensuring strategic alignment across departments.
    • Monitor and track spending in alignment with annual budget.
    • Participate in cross-departmental working groups to design and develop pilot programs that impact the supply chain.

    Other Duties as Assigned (10%)

    Minimum Requirements:

    • At least 4-year BA degree in a related field, masters preferred.
    • Must have at least ten (10) plus years-experience with Warehousing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Distribution, and Inventory Systems
    • Possess strong problem solving and analytical skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Possess excellent written, verbal communication skills, and mathematical skills
    • Strong computer system skills; excel skills and data management
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment and manage multiple priorities; deadline-oriented
    • Ability to delegate responsibility and authority to maximize employees’ skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment and drive change

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Demonstrated ability to lead and take charge of teams to get results through others in a timely manner.
    • Strong proficiency in inventory or data warehousing software.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Strong data and analytic abilities
    • Possess an ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
    • Strong management skills especially effective communication and teamwork skills across departments to meet goals and complete tasks on time.
    • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment using an effective leadership style to the team being supervised.
    • Possess strong decision-making and leadership skills.
    • Experience working in a warehouse and/or non-profit environment.
    • Ability to work with and lead a diverse group of people.
    • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems as well as implement improvements to processes and established systems.

    Reporting:

    • This role reports to Chief Operations Officer

    Schedule:

    • Operations hours vary based on team needs
    • Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm
    • The position is based in DC at 4900 Puerto Rico Ave NE, Washington DC 20017
    • This role will require travel to our office in Lorton, VA -- 6833 Hill Park Drive Lorton, VA 22079

    Compensation:

    • $125,000 - 134,000 / annually
