Full-Time Position
What is the Good Health Project?
The Good Health Project is a new project, launched in late 2024, that will provide free or low-cost legal representation to healthcare professionals and institutions seeking to provide transgender healthcare in a rapidly-changing legal environment and rising atmosphere of government lawlessness. Our focus will be on advising healthcare providers on how to provide the maximum extent of services allowable by law, avoid over-compliance with the government’s attempts to restrict healthcare services through threats and rhetoric, and avoid litigation. We also provide policy advocacy advice, know-your-rights education, and other services our clients need to continue their provision of care. The Good Health Project works closely with other transgender, LGBTQ, civil rights, health, and legal organizations, and is part of the larger movement to preserve and defend civil rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
What is the job?
The Good Health Project is hiring paralegals or legal assistants to contribute to and support its legal work on behalf of providers of transgender healthcare. The Good Health Project’s paralegals and legal assistants will undertake a diverse variety of activities, including legal and policy research, review of relevant scientific and social science literature, paralegal work on our client matters (including Bluebooking, cite checking, proofreading, and formatting), participation in clients’ advocacy efforts, and administrative work in support of the Project as a whole. Paralegals and legal assistants will report to the Good Health Project’s attorneys, but will also work directly with clients and co-counsel. The responsibilities of the two positions are similar, but a paralegal’s responsibilities will be slightly more focused on supporting our client matters, and a legal assistant’s on supporting the organization.
Prior experience is not required. The positions are excellent for experienced applicants, or for people seeking an entry-level position, especially if they are seeking to decide whether to pursue a law degree.
