    The Folger Shakespeare Library, located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, is seeking an Administrative Coordinator to join our  Education team. This individual, under the supervision of the Director of Education, will provide administrative and project support to the Education team.

    The Administrative Coordinator, Education plays a critical role in the work of the Education team and our mission of welcoming and engaging teachers and learners from our many communities. The Administrative Assistant will provide administrative support to the Education division to keep the many projects on track, coordinate or participate in collaborative projects, and serve as an information nucleus for the division. They will be expected to develop and build positive strong working relationships within the department and with external stakeholders, and other departments in the institution regularly. The Administrative Coordinator will also participate in research on topics related to educational programs and projects. The successful candidate will have a belief in the importance of the arts and humanities and the difference the work of Folger can make.

    The standard schedule for this role is Monday-Friday, 8:45am-4:45pm, which is a 35-hour workweek with an hour unpaid lunch daily. Additional evening and weekend hours may be required for special programs. This position is a primarily onsite role with 4 days on site and 1 day remote. The selected candidate will need to be within a commutable distance to the D.C. office (DC, MD, VA) by their start date.

    Compensation:

    • This is a weekly-paid hourly position at a rate of $28.56 per hour and a 35-hour work week.

    Duties:

    • Supports the Director of Education in maintaining the director’s calendar, monitors and responds to emails, and sets up meetings. Undertakes research and drafts correspondence as needed.
    • Coordinates the administrative aspects of Education’s work, including scheduling, supporting online and onsite events and meetings; answering general inquiries, and when needed, arrange housing and transportation.
    • Manages all logistics for Education’s national professional development work, both online and onsite. Includes scheduling events, managing all technology involved, communicating with both events leaders and participants, and more.
    • Supports Folger Education Mentor Teacher’s work across the country. Includes organizing and managing training retreats for Mentor Teachers in preparation for their work. Additionally, supporting Mentor Teacher’s on-the-ground work, including helping organize professional development workshops and all logistics related to such workshops.
    • Helps manage Folger Education’s student experience programs. Includes scheduling student tours and workshops, arranging transportation, coordinating with external and internal partners, serving as a point of contact, and more.
    • Assists with the Folger’s Docent program. Includes being the primary point of contact and communication, scheduling continuing education sessions, tracking Docent hours, planning new training classes, and more.
    • Assists with the creation and distribution of all Letters of Agreement or Contracts related to work done on behalf of Folger Education.
    • Processes invoices and payments for the department and assists in monitoring both individual project budgets and the department’s budget as a whole.
    • Maintains the Folger Teaching section of the Folger website. Includes uploading content and creating event pages on the Folger’s website in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
    • In collaboration with Education staff, responsible for Education’s content entry to Folger’s monthly internal newsletter. Also coordinates the newsletters distribution.
    • Coordinates the department’s communication calendar and participates in the creations of our BardNotes communications to ~16K subscribers. Additionally, maintains and keeps current department databases, mailing lists, and WordFly lists.
    • Coordinates with the Marketing and Communications department on Folger Education’s social media. In consultation with education staff, posts content on Folger Education’s social media accounts.
    • Serves as the first point of contact for public, answers general inquiries about education programs and learning resources.
    • Participates in education-related working groups and projects involving a range of stakeholders, including Folger staff from other departments, Folger docents, and members of local and national communities. Builds effective relationships with internal and external project partners and audiences.

    Education and Experience: 

    • B.A degree or equivalent, with a background in English, Humanities, Museum Studies, or Education desirable.
    • A minimum of three years of experience working in an administrative capacity is required.
    • Prior experience in a cultural institution is desired but not required.
    • Prior experience working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and diverse experiences required. 
    • Demonstrated management of assigned projects, budget tracking, and administrative work required.
    • History of responsibility over projects, tasks, and relationships.

    Skills and Knowledge: 

    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills needed.
    • Ability to work with a wide range and diverse group of stakeholders and build strong relationships, including Folger staff, external partners (ex. school districts), publisher, volunteers, and more. Be a great people person.
    • Ability to communicate directly and effectively with both internal staff and external stakeholders. Includes strong writing skills.
    • Able to multi-task and juggle shifting priorities; ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.
    • Must be able to work independently and work collaboratively as part of a team; understand the importance of collaboration.
    • Able to use good judgement and evaluation skills.
    • Ability to keep good records and track numerous ongoing communications.
    • Knowledge of WordFly or similar software preferred. 
    • Strong computer literacy and attention to detail required.
