Project Manager

The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) is seeking an innovative and results-oriented Project Manager to join our growing Project Management Office (PMO). IDSA is a community of over 13,000 physicians, scientists and public health experts who specialize in infectious diseases. Reporting to the PMO Director, the Project Manager will manage critical projects that advance IDSA’s mission of improving public health through infectious disease research, education, and advocacy. Qualifications

Characteristic Essential Responsibilities:

Project Management

• Defines project goals, deliverables, metrics, and timelines in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Leads project planning, resource allocation, and risk management using tools like Smartsheet.
• Anticipates challenges and proactively manages risks, ensuring projects stay on track and achieve intended outcomes.
• Organizes and facilitates project kick-offs, status updates, and retrospectives to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
• Develops high-quality project documentation, presentations, and reports that demonstrate the value of projects to the organization.

PMO Operations

• Enhances PMO methodologies, tools, and templates for improved project delivery.
• Drives PMO initiatives to strengthen governance, accountability, and performance across projects.
• Actively contributes to the development of a project management culture rooted in excellence, inclusivity, and shared success.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; relevant experience can be submitted.
• At least 3 years of project coordination/management experience, preferably in healthcare, scientific, or professional association setting.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, Kanban, Lean) with a successful delivery track record.
• Project Management Certification (PMP, CAPM, CSM, or equivalent) is highly desirable.

• Advanced organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence and drive consensus.
• Proficient with utilizing project management software and tools to support project planning, execution, tracking, reporting, and collaboration (Smartsheet and Microsoft Teams expertise is desirable).
• Self-motivated, adaptable, and proactive, with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Passionate about public health, infectious diseases, and driving meaningful change.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects or programs throughout the lifecycle and integrate lessons learned into next iteration.

Travel Requirements

• Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
• IDWeek – October (typically)
• Annual All Staff Retreat - Summer
• End of year Celebration – December

Physical Demands

• This position requires sitting and/or standing at a desk, prolonged sitting and bending and lifting during travel, as well as extensive sitting, standing, walking, and lifting during IDWeek.
• This role also requires access to stable internet, and ability to spend several hours on the computer.
