    Title: Evaluation Specialist

    Reports to: Senior Director, Evaluation

    Location: Home Office (US Based)

    Status: This is a contract, part-time (17.5 hours/week) position covering a LOA, approximately 16 weeks

    Date: May 1 - September 1, 2025

    Position Description

    Facing History & Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to racism, antisemitism, and other forms of bigotry and hate.

    As a member of the Evaluation team, the Evaluation Specialist will be responsible for carrying out program evaluation activities that contribute to the evidence base for the organization, inform program development and strategy, and assess the organization’s progress towards its strategic goals.

    The Evaluation team has a significant mandate in generating new knowledge to inform the organization’s direction and support its growth. In order to maximize learning and insights that will inform organizational strategy and development, the Evaluation team interfaces with departments across the organization, including Program, Development, and Marketing & Communications, as well as Executive and Program Directors of regional offices.

    The Evaluation team has the following functions:

    • Participate in developing and implementing a cohesive, cross-functional learning agenda for the organization
    • Clearly articulate what is known from research about the program’s effectiveness to stakeholders through written summaries and presentations. We are challenging ourselves to find new ways to communicate our evidence base to help a range of audiences with diverse needs - including staff, our boards and funders, school and district leaders, and the broader education field - understand our findings
    • Carry out new research and evaluation to fill gaps in our knowledge, and to fulfill stakeholder requirements
    • Support the organization in using knowledge from research and evaluation to apply insights and guide program and organizational strategy
    • Keep abreast of advances in relevant fields of education, developmental psychology, and evaluation and apply their implications to Facing History strategy; contribute knowledge to those fields through conference presentations and papers
    • Ensure staff development across the organization related to all of the above

    Specific Responsibilities Include:

    • Manage data collection processes, including data cleaning, and storage
    • Perform basic quantitative analyses, including descriptives
    • Analyze qualitative data sets
    • Write parts of evaluation reports and participate in presenting results
    • Update summaries of evaluation findings with new results
    • Manage and update department information systems, including files, tracking studies, databases, and dissemination of deliverables
    • Search for relevant academic literature
    • Respond to inquiries about evaluation
    • Create data visualizations -- including graphs, charts, figures, and tables -- that are accessible and engaging for non-technical audiences

    Essential Skills/Qualities:

    • B.A/B.S. required; MA degree in Evaluation or Applied Research preferred
    • Two or more years of evaluation experience, preferably involving educators and students in grades 6-12.
    • Ability to calculate frequencies, means, and percentages using Google spreadsheets or Excel
    • Ability to analyze qualitative datasets using Google spreadsheets or Excel and articulate clear and accessible themes grounded in the data
    • Ability to create data visualizations using Google spreadsheets
    • Strong writing skills
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Ability to support multiple projects effectively
    • Ability to work individually and as a member of a team
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Creative, energetic, self-starting, proactive
    • Demonstrated commitment to Facing History’s mission
    • Experience with developing measurement tools (e.g., surveys, focus group and interview protocols) for various audiences is a plus
    • Experience using SurveyMonkey and Salesforce is a plus

    Remote-first/Hybrid Work Model: Facing History and Ourselves operates in a remote-first/hybrid work model, allowing staff flexibility in both schedules and work locations. This particular position is home-based. Some travel is required.
