    Descripción

The State Power Division is a newly created division that includes nearly 100 staff members in 14 chartered WFP states. State-level operations endorse and elect thousands of candidates each year, including some of the most dynamic elected officials in the country. And our work at the state level goes beyond serving as electoral operatives. In each state we are building a strong and aligned party infrastructure including member organizations and individual activists and leaders, a cycle-to-cycle voter engagement program that focuses on the multi-racial working class and a plan to win governing power with a strong focus on organizing and supporting caucuses of legislators.

The Working Families Party is seeking a seasoned and multi-talented communications professional to tell the collective story of our work at the state and local level to a variety of internal and external audiences and to support our chartered states and regions to develop and execute impactful communications strategies. This position is ideal for someone who can think big and design systems and infrastructure, is excited about coaching and developing our state and regional communication leads and is also able to get into the details of execution. This is a newly created position that will require working with digital and communications professionals across the organization to bring state-level leaders and stories into the overall organizational communications and narrative strategy.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • State and Regional Support:
      • Provide direct or indirect oversight to 2-4 regional and state communications staff.
      • Support state-level staff to develop communications and narrative strategies that support state power building.
      • Provide direct strategy and implementation support to regions and states that lack communications capacity. Currently these regions are the Southwest, Northeast, and Northwest.
      • Provide ongoing media training and spokesperson development to staff, officers, and WFP members.
      • Assess and build consensus around staffing models to meet state and regional communication needs.
      • Coordinate and direct communications consultants where necessary.
    • Telling the Story of State Power:
      • Develop systems and structures to package and disseminate content and facilitate regular communications to various audiences of political insiders, reporters, funders, and other WFP leaders.
      • Develop and execute a strategy to elevate WFP’s state-level work and state-level leaders, including a national earned media strategy, a brand development strategy and working with WFP’s digital director to identify and execute digital strategies.
      • Develop a vision for and manage the creation of promotional materials that center and tell the story of state level work.
    • Systems and Infrastructure:
      • Develop centralized infrastructure that supports state level communications work and increases internal information flow about state level work.
      • Develop standard communications policies and procedures for state level staff.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Five years of communications experience
    • Significant experience working with state and national political reporters
    • Strong writing and editing skills
    • Ability to develop and execute strategic communications plans
    • Experience with social media and digital communications
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Demonstrated ability to work across a diverse, complex organization or eco-system to accomplish work involving multiple stakeholders at different levels

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Experience managing or mentoring colleagues
    • Experience developing communications strategies to support fundraising efforts
    • Media relationships in regions where WFP lacks dedicated communications staff, including the Southwest, Pacific Northwest or the Midwest
