The coordinator will collaborate with schools, community organizations, and families to create a supportive environment for youth development and prevention education.

    Key Responsibilities:

      • Parent Education:
      • Develop and lead workshops and educational programs for parents focused on preventing youth alcohol and drug use.
      • Provide resources and tools for parents to understand the signs of substance use and how to effectively communicate with their children.
      • Youth Education & Training:
      • Organize, plan and facilitate activities related to ITC's youth board, TECH (Teens Encouraging Community Health) and work to develop TECH clubs at each of the four high schools in the Issaquah School District.
      • Deliver evidence-based alcohol and drug use prevention curricula to youth in schools, community centers, and other venues.
      • Provide life skills training to youth, focusing on decision-making, coping mechanisms, peer pressure resistance, and healthy lifestyle choices.
      • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate established youth leadership activities and programs, including an annual student video contest, the Power of Me Power of We middle school leadership conference, Park Hangouts, and educational components to support student athletes.
      • Develop, plan, implement and evaluate youth advocacy development activities, including an annual Youth Prevention Day in Olympia and other opportunities for youth advocacy with elected officials and community leaders.
      • Community Outreach & Collaboration:
      • Establish partnerships with schools, PTSA’s, local community organizations, and community leaders to broaden the reach of alcohol and drug prevention education programs.
      • Present ITC activities to parent and community groups, such as PTSA, Kiwanis, and Rotary Clubs.
      • Coordinate community events, workshops, and awareness campaigns aimed at preventing youth substance use.
      • Positive Community Norms:
      • Design and implement Positive Community Norms (PCN) campaigns aimed at shifting perceptions and behaviors around youth alcohol and drug use within the community. Ensure the messaging reinforces healthy behaviors and counters misconceptions about substance use.
      • Educate parents, youth, and community members about Positive Community Norms, focusing on promoting awareness of the actual norms versus perceived behaviors regarding substance use.
      • Utilize community survey data to identify gaps between perceived and actual behaviors related to alcohol and drug use.
      • Work with schools, local businesses, media, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to disseminate PCN messaging and ensure consistent, broad-reaching communication.

    Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, public health, counseling, or a related field preferred.
      • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in youth services, education, or substance use prevention.
