    Program/Department Overview

    EDF’s Global Engagement and Partnerships (GEP) team facilitates EDF's global presence, advocacy, and policy work, while also building strong relationships with stakeholders worldwide, working to ensure that EDF’s activities and communications are culturally relevant and effective. The GEP team coordinates EDF’s engagement in key international fora like the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other UN spaces, and serves as an institution-level coordinator for EDF’s partnerships with key multilateral stakeholders. GEP team members undertake original research and publish in peer-reviewed journals; participate in and regularly give presentations to international negotiators, representing EDF and broader NGO coalitions; and develop and present materials in a wide range of settings including multilateral meetings with governments, civil society organizations, corporations, and other stakeholders around the world.

    Overall Function

    The fellow will support EDF’s Global Engagement and Partnerships team on research, writing, and advocacy projects focused on international climate negotiations and cooperative climate action between and among countries, and relevant global initiatives to support the development of strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the multilateral space. The fellow will work alongside other team members to prepare a range of written products, including policy memos on emerging issues in global environmental governance, mapping stakeholder initiatives, and work to support the development and coordination of EDF’s strategic partnerships. The fellow will report to the Senior Director, Global Partnerships.

    Key Responsibilities

    Tasks will include but are not limited to:

    • Prepare short policy briefs as well as larger written research products to inform team preparations for and analysis of negotiations in Rio Conventions and other UN and international forums, including the UNFCCC and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
    • Monitor and contribute to research on emerging issues in global environmental governance, such as climate migration, chemicals, and plastics.
    • Support with the identification, development, and coordination of initiatives and potential partnerships between EDF and key multilateral stakeholders, including multilateral organizations, non-donor countries, and non-governmental organizations.
    • Support knowledge and stakeholder management for institutional partnership processes, including support activities for institutional memberships and registrations.
    • Contribute to key organizational outputs, including partnerships report and tracking, and emerging issues reports.
    • Contribute to EDF’s submissions to multilateral forums, including UNFCCC.
    • Participate in briefings and coordination meetings with civil society partners.
    • Assist in creating presentations, blogs, memos, fact sheets, and communications materials for both internal and external audiences.
    • Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

    Qualifications

    • A recent Master’s degree in international environmental policy, environmental management, international relations, or related discipline.
    • Demonstrated interest in international relations, global climate policy, and climate treaty negotiations.
    • Familiarity with UNFCCC or other UN environmental processes is a plus.
    • General experience in coordination of stakeholders or partnership management is a plus.
    • Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills.
    • Must be well organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
    • An ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a geographically dispersed team in a fast-paced, dynamic, and professional environment.
    • Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
    • Demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.

    Location

    U.S. Remote with preference for someone in east coast time zone, and possibility to work out of an EDF Office location in Austin, TX; Boston, MA; New York, NY; Raleigh, NC; or Washington D.C. Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required for the duration of the fellowship.

    Term

    2 years, with an anticipated start date of January 2025.

    Compensation

    We offer a strong total rewards package encompassing competitive salary, robust benefits, and professional development opportunities consistent with a modern global organization. The annual salary for this role is $56,000-$60,000.
