    Rebuilding Together NYC

Position Title: Program Director, Careers in Construction

    Compensation: $95,000-100,000

    Overview of Position

Rebuilding Together NYC (RTNYC) is a nonprofit organization that provides home repair and accessibility modifications as well as skill-building opportunities for eligible New Yorkers. RTNYC also provides volunteer opportunities for corporate partners with a focus on rehabbing community centers, community gardens, and occasional homes.

Rebuilding Together NYC's workforce development initiative, Careers in Construction (CiC), serves approximately 100-150 individuals annually. A maintenance training track is under development with an expectation to launch in early 2024.

Careers in Construction is a six-week training course that prepares unemployed and underemployed individuals for entry-level jobs in the construction industry. CiC is a pre-apprenticeship certificate training and a direct-entry provider with a curriculum that combines classroom and hands-on components, utilizing the Home Builder’s Institute Pre-Apprenticeship Certification Training (HBI PACT) curriculum. Participants learn the fundamentals of construction, including site safety, OSHA-30, construction math, tool identification, and employability, and receive industry-recognized certificates such as SST, OSHA 30, Flagger, and Fire Guard. Upon graduation from the program, participants receive job placement and retention support, including direct entry referrals to registered New York State Apprenticeship Programs. The program is supported by corporate, foundation, and government contracts.

The Program Director’s primary focus is overseeing the day-to-day operation of the program, supervising the team, and ensuring the successful placement and retention of graduates into construction and/or maintenance jobs with a focus on union apprenticeships with several trade unions. The Director develops and maintains relationships with employer partners, including registered apprenticeship programs, general contractors, and large construction firms. The Director supervises two full-time and potentially one part-time staff member as well as contracted part-time trainers.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operation of the program including recruitment/outreach, intake/assessment, enrollment, training, graduation, placement and retention.
    • Work with the team to ensure that participants are placed into full-time construction jobs with a focus on union apprenticeships.
    • Oversee successful enrollment of 125+ annually (with gradual increases each year); graduation of 85% of those enrolled; the placement of 80% of those graduated, and a one-year retention rate of 75% of those placed.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with union, employer and community partners.
    • Oversee and manage team to conduct outreach, intake, job placement, and data tracking for the program.
    • Supervise two full-time and potentially one additional staff member as well as contractors who perform additional certification training and other instructional support.
    • Oversee and track employment data, including job referrals, placements, retention, benefits, pay increases, and promotions.
    • Ensure graduates are in communication with program staff and that they receive direct support and/or meaningful referrals throughout the employment lifecycle.
    • Analyze employment data and employer feedback to inform program outreach, screening, curriculum, and delivery practices.
    • Use data and outcomes, employer feedback, changes to industry standards, and legislative/policy updates to advise program staff on best practices and make programmatic adjustments as required.
    • Contribute to year-round reporting to government and foundation funders.
    • Represent Rebuilding Together NYC at meetings with employer partners, attend networking events, and keep abreast of changes in the industry relevant to construction employment.
    • Assist in identifying additional construction related training and placement opportunities to build Rebuilding Together’s capacity to train and place more students.

    Job Requirements

    • Commitment to the economic mobility of striving New Yorkers and increased access to good jobs with benefits in the construction industry by prioritizing union apprenticeships.
    • Knowledge of construction-based workforce development initiatives in New York City, including participating employers, registered apprenticeship programs, funders, and fellow providers
    • Minimum five years in a nonprofit supervisory role (or equivalent)
    • Ability to build trust and establish strong relationships with a range of employer partners
    • Excellent written and verbal skills
    • Detail-oriented and able to maintain and further develop a database of employment activity
    • Comfortability with public speaking and presenting to large groups
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a growing team; collaboration, independence, and flexibility are a must
    • Ability to represent Rebuilding Together NYC in a professional manner
    • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or experience with data management systems required
