    Job Description

    The Health Resource Center is seeking a full-time program coordinator to play a dual role in ensuring the success of our out-of-school time youth programming and strengthening community organizations capacity to support youth through training and coaching initiatives. This dual role will work in close partnership with the youth program coordinator and the capacity building and training coordinator to coordinate and implement educational programs, workshops, and activities aimed at promoting youth development, health education, and community engagement. This role involves working closely with internal programs, schools, and community organizations to ensure success of these programs.

    The ideal candidate for this role is designed for a dynamic, motivated and culturally competent individual who is passionate about youth development and has a knack for building organizational capacity. The candidate should possess strong relationship building skills and have the ability to implement effective capacity-building initiatives. As a proactive team player, they are dedicated to eliminating health inequities and supporting diverse populations. They are adept at developing and coordinating youth programs, providing case management, and facilitating training sessions for youth service providers. Their commitment to continuous improvement and innovative practices makes them an asset to the HRC team.

    Who we are: The Health Resource Center (HRC) envisions youth as the experts on their health who are supported in their homes, schools, and communities to eliminate health inequities. We provide in-school health education in Boston Public high schools with an associated drop-in space where youth can access 1:1 services. We implement academic year after-school programming and are part of the Child, Adolescent and Family Health Bureau's CAFH University which provides cross-program collaboration with other youth programs in the CAFH bureau, including a summer enrichment program. We support capacity building and offer technical assistance for local youth providers who work with adolescents. Our key content areas are public health and health equity, sexual health, mental health and substance use awareness education.

    Duties:

    Youth Program Development and Coordination

    • Assist in the coordination and implementation of academic year and summer programs, activities and events within the Health Resource Center's Peer Leadership Institute for youth between the ages of 15-18, including teaching, training, and developing workshops.
    • Implement best practices re: curricula, peer leadership/education and youth development and parent engagement models.
    • Assist in the design, coordination and facilitation of peer education programs, trainings, that focus on but are not limited to, sexual and reproductive health, healthy relationship promotion, substance use awareness promotion, fitness and nutrition, health equity, program planning, facilitation, public speaking, conflict resolution, policy and advocacy, etc.

    Capacity Building and Training

    • Assist in the design, coordination and facilitation of training sessions, workshops and seminars for youth service providers
    • Implement best practices re: curricula, adult education and positive youth development and technical assistance
    • Provide ongoing support and technical assistance to program participants to enhance their skills and knowledge

    Build and Leverage Partnerships

    • Work with CAHD Division programs to identify community service opportunities, outreach, educational, and field trip/recreational opportunities for peer leaders for the summer enrichment program.
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

    Representation and Collaboration

    • Work closely with other Health Resource Center staff and other programs within the Child and Adolescent Health Division.
    • Collaborate with other BPHC programs in providing services
    • Represent BPHC and HRC at internal and external meetings, health fairs, and conferences and other community activities as requested
    • Travel and occasional evenings to deliver community-based programming required.
    • Attend all trainings and program activities as required by program director
    • Function according to all protocols and policies of HRC

    Program Evaluation and Improvement

    • Conduct on-going assessment and evaluation to determine effectiveness of educational programming.
    • Assist in the implementation of inclusion models to strengthen the program delivery system.
    • Document and collect information regarding services provided according to the policies of the program
    • Perform other relevant duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BA/BS required OR 3 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree. Experience with urban, at-risk youth and their families.
    • Competency and sensitivity in working with racially and culturally diverse populations. Knowledge and understanding of adolescent developmental issues.
    • Demonstrated experience coordinating and implementing complex projects in the area of position.
    • Ability to: write clear, concise reports, and to follow and to give written and oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner; understand, explain, apply the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures of unit activities; establish rapport with others and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
    • Knowledge & experience with MS Office, MS Word/Excel
    • Advanced experience with and knowledge of local community agencies and health care providers.
    • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to develop timelines and meeting deadlines.
    • Demonstrated cultural competence with the diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic groups.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
    • Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.

    • A Criminal Offenders Records Information request must be completed for this position. However, a record is not an automatic bar to employment but is reviewed in relation to the job applied for.
    • This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a result of such direct contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties.
