    The Karsh Family Social Service Center (the “Karsh Center”) at Wilshire Boulevard Temple is in the heart of Los Angeles’s Koreatown neighborhood. The Karsh Center, established in 2016, is a social service center offering integrated services focusing on Food and Nutrition Security, Health and Wellness, Community Services, and Parent and Child Well-being for individuals and families living near the Karsh Center and across Los Angeles. Centralizing these services directly with the assistance of volunteers and through a collaboration of providers at the Karsh Center enables us to offer a variety of vital services to our community. The Karsh Center is a 501 (c)(3) non-religious organization.

    Primary Responsibilities

    The Karsh Center is searching for a part time Volunteer Engagement Coordinator-- a thoughtful, highly organized and detail-oriented, “people person” who will support the coordination and growth of our Volunteer Engagement program by focusing on outreach and onboarding of volunteers, maintenance of our volunteer management systems and database, as well as supporting implementation of volunteer programs and activities in service of our clients and the greater community around Los Angeles.

    We are looking for a passionate advocate of volunteerism and the Karsh Center’s Volunteer Engagement program, who is excited about helping implement systems and processes to expand the capacity of our volunteer engagement program and its impact on the community.

    This position will report to the Director of Volunteer Engagement and is part time at 20 hours per week, including occasional Sunday and evening work. This position is in-person and will be based at our Koreatown site, occasionally at our site in Brentwood, and in the field for volunteer outreach events.

    Duties will include but are not limited to:

    Volunteer Outreach & Recruitment

    • Work with Volunteer Engagement staff to implement strategies to identify and recruit new volunteers, from preschool-age through seniors; individuals, families, and groups.
    • Administer volunteer engagement email account, fielding inquiries from interested potential volunteers and guiding them toward the most appropriate next steps.
    • Support coordination and implementation of new corporate/group volunteer program, including initial handling of requests from schools, faith organizations and affinity groups, local businesses, fellow nonprofit agencies, and more.

    Volunteer Onboarding

    • Work one-on-one with interested volunteers to provide support and move them through the volunteer onboarding process, including but not limited to:
      • Provide guidance about activities and the application process to potential volunteers
      • Host/conduct volunteer orientations
      • Work with volunteers to complete remainder of individual onboarding, including collecting applications and waivers, complete program-specific screenings, providing on-site welcome and training, and following up with volunteers after their first shift
    • Provide “volunteer referrals” to other Collaborator organizations to connect individuals to meaningful volunteer experiences based on their interests

    Volunteer Activity Support

    • Along with fellow Karsh Center volunteer engagement staff, provide direct supervision and support to on-site volunteer activities at the Karsh Center in Koreatown, as well as occasional support at the Karsh Tikkun Olam Center in Brentwood. This includes:
      • Welcoming volunteers and providing on-site training for activities.
      • Supporting check-ins throughout volunteer shifts.
      • Fielding feedback and questions from volunteers.

    Volunteer Data and Evaluation Support

    • Support Karsh Center data and evaluation strategy by
      • Tracking all details of volunteer outreach and onboarding activities through Karsh Center’s volunteer management system, Volunteer Impact.
      • Tracking details of volunteer projects and activities through Karsh Center’s volunteer management system, Volunteer Impact.
      • Run monthly reports and maintain Volunteer Engagement data dashboard, and help analyze volunteer data.
      • Support implementation of volunteer surveys.
    • Support quarterly volunteer engagement data review and reporting for Board materials.

    Qualifications and Prerequisites

    • A bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector, volunteer sector, and/or community outreach and engagement
    • Experience with using data systems and analysis as part of program implementation and evaluation.
    • A compelling, effective public speaker as well as excellent written communicator
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a good listener
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, GSuite technology, and Mac OS. Knowledge of systems such as Volunteer Impact, Canva, and WordPress is a plus
    • Comfort learning new systems (training will be provided)
    • Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills
    • Cultural humility and an appreciation for working with people from diverse backgrounds
    • A lifelong learner
    • Proactive problem solver and critical thinker who can stay flexible and thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Able to handle difficult situations with confidence and compassion
    • Valid CA driver’s license, auto insurance, and their own vehicle to drive between sites
    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
    • Flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed

    Benefits

    This position is hourly, and pays $27/hour.
