The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center works across the country to develop research-driven strategies to increase public safety and strengthen communities. Justice Counts is a national initiative to improve the accessibility and usability of criminal justice data. Justice Counts is founded on the belief that sharing criminal justice data should be easy. Justice Counts provides tools, resources, and support to help agencies achieve this vision and to help decision-makers most effectively use criminal justice data to make better decisions about public safety and fairness.

The Justice Counts Impact Team works to empower criminal justice leaders and policymakers to use data for smarter decisions and better community outcomes. As a policy analyst on our team, you will work to support a vibrant network of criminal justice researchers, academics, policy advocates, and criminal justice agency personnel to shape Justice Counts metrics and create impactful resources for agencies to share their data through Justice Counts.

Our policy analysts work together with their project manager supervisors to implement Impact team goals and objectives. As a policy analyst you are an "Impact Tactician" - you're keenly aware of what it takes to carry out our ground strategies in Justice Counts partnering states and agencies through close communication with Justice Counts agencies across the country. In close collaboration with project managers, you will develop and iterate on high quality strategies, tactics, and resources for agency use in the field while also ensuring those resources are delivered on time and in coordination with internal teams and resources.

This is a fully remote position that can be performed from anywhere in the U.S.

Occasional travel (no more than twice a quarter) is required.

What you'll do:

Specific responsibilities of the policy analyst include the following:

• Serve as a point person on a project and provide value to Justice Counts stakeholders across the country.
• Develop and support project deliverables and contribute to the advancements of project objectives.
• Ensure the successful delivery of project timelines, deliverables, monitoring, and cross-team collaboration.
• Prepare for and lead meetings with state and local policymakers, funders, practitioners, agency leaders, and federal officials.
• Draft and track internal and external stakeholder updates on project developments.
• Ownership of some project deliverables or timelines.
• Work effectively with relevant project stakeholders, audiences, and funders to advance the project and consistently ensure deliverables meet all requirements.

What you'll bring:

• Strong interpersonal skills including self-awareness, sensitivity and valuing others.
• Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing CSG Justice Center duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds
• Three years of professional experience in the criminal justice field or a related field, such as law, legislative organizing, social work, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment where idea generation and resource creation are daily work activities
• Experience managing complicated processes involving large groups of stakeholders
• Excellent research, writing, and editing skills as well as strong critical and strategic thinking
• Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively distill and present complex information in a concise, accessible way
• Ability to develop, monitor, and deliver project-based timelines and reports
• Ability to communicate project objectives, as well as the role each internal and external stakeholder plays in the project
• Ability to actively contribute ideas that support relevant project objectives and goals
• Demonstrated experience using knowledge of the criminal or juvenile justice system in policy formulation, analysis, advocacy, practice, and/or research
• Demonstrated experience developing agendas for and participating in strategic meetings with key stakeholders
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including maturity and an ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Willingness to travel occasionally (no more than twice a quarter) to deliver technical assistance on-site in states across the country or present at conferences and convenings
• Ability to work remotely with autonomy, understand technology, and be able to communicate across platforms effectively
• Reliable and secure internet/data connection and flexibility for using a personal device for internet connectivity during business travel. A cost offset is provided by the CSG Justice Center

Compensation will be based on experience and geography. The salary range for this position is $64,500 - $88,500. Salary ranges are subject to change based on work location and market conditions.

Our organization offers flexibility in work arrangements, allowing for remote work or a hybrid model. Candidates residing in the NYC metropolitan area will be considered for hybrid model employment.
