Summary:
The Education & Events Coordinator plays a pivotal role within our nonprofit animal shelter, responsible for the creation, implementation, and supervision of humane education and children’s programs, as well as the coordination and execution of community and fundraising events. The ideal candidate is an independent thinker who also thrives in collaborative settings and excels at engaging with children and adults.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Humane Education and Children’s Programs:
- Develop, promote, and oversee educational programs.
- Establish and nurture relationships with schools, libraries, scout groups, and community organizations to promote CAP’s mission.
- Coordinate and host shelter tours.
- Manage and host birthday parties, Education Center rentals, and scout/service events, including scheduling, setup, supervision, and breakdown.
- Create lesson plans and schedules for seasonal camps, ensuring alignment with CAP’s mission, direct programs, and provide leadership and training for staff and volunteers involved.
- Actively seek and cultivate partnerships for fundraising, in-kind donations, and small grants to support education programs.
- Regularly assess education programs and recommend enhancements to better serve the community.
- Design visually appealing educational materials, presentations, and promotional content using Canva to enhance program engagement and outreach.
Shelter and Community Events:
- Take ownership of shelter events, both on- and off-campus, from initial planning to post-event reporting.
- Coordinate with key stakeholders, fill in roles as needed, and ensure all event-related deadlines and applications are met.
- Promote and increase visibility for CAP programs and services at community events, festivals, trade shows, and on-site activities.
- Prepare the shelter for events, including setup and breakdown of decor, seating, sponsor tables, and more.
- Greet attendees and ensure a welcoming experience for volunteers and the public.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to promote events and submit materials for publication (e.g., PetTalk Magazine).
- Act as a spokesperson for CAP at events and community engagements.
- Continuously evaluate the success and impact of events, providing reports and suggestions for improvement.
Administrative Support and Collaboration:
- Work closely with administrative staff to ensure seamless integration of education and event efforts with overall shelter operations.
- Serve as backup for the Volunteer Coordinator and assist in other shelter areas as needed.
- Act as a backup for the Marketing Coordinator, assisting with marketing campaigns, content creation, and maintaining CAP's presence across various platforms when required
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and career development opportunities.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing, sitting, bending, and lifting of up to 30 pounds.
- Working with animals, including handling those with behavioral or medical challenges.
- Driving to and from event locations with occasional setup and breakdown of equipment.
Environmental Conditions:
- May include noisy environments, including barking and other animal noises
- May include pungent smells from animal caretaking
- Includes small and/or enclosed spaces
Required education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with a non-profit organization in the field of education, public relations or community relations
Preferred experience:
- Two years of college or more
- Some supervisory and management experience

- Strong public speaking and communication skills.
- Ability to connect with children and adults, fostering positive relationships across diverse groups.
- High level of initiative and independence, with the ability to thrive in team environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
- Commitment to service excellence and maintaining professionalism under pressure.
- Proficiency in graphic design/use of Canva.
- Ability to plan, write and implement lesson plans and activities.
