    Descripción

    The Director of Finance serves as a senior leader in the organization and partners with the Executive Director (ED) to oversee all aspects of Tucson Bird Alliance’s overall financial health, reporting, and compliance, and directs all aspects of accounting, as well as maintaining TBA’s relationship with the financial community.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Financial Oversight and Direction

    • Directs the duties of the Bookkeeper and ensures accuracy of work produced
    • Oversees and directs annual budgeting, audit compliance, taxes, accounting, and general purchasing activities
    • Partners with an external CPA firm to facilitate audits and tax returns
    • Directs financial aspects program-related activities, providing Standard Operating Procedures, financial insight and direction to other program staff and leadership
    • Directs procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and ensure adequate accounting controls and services, including internal accounting control safeguards
    • Ensures records systems and controls are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including working with Accountant to ensure timely fulfillment of IRS reporting requirements
    • In partnership with the ED and Finance Committee, manages funds, securities, and assets
    • Analyzes TBA’s financial position, including cash flow, and issues periodic financial and operating reports, including financial forecasts for the ED and the Board of Directors
    • Identifies potential areas of financial risk or weakness and works with ED and Management Team to address any concerns
    • Keeps ED appraised of financial matters and provides consultation regarding financial issues and decisions
    • Oversees and directs the preparation and issuance of the financial aspects of the TBA Annual Report
    • Analyzes general economic, business, and financial conditions and their impact on the organization’s policies and operations
    • Creates and coordinates financial reports, assembling information and providing recommendations for asset and liability needs to the Board of Directors and Board Finance Committees
    • Prepares timely reports and projections and presents findings to the Management Team and the Board of Directors
    • Oversees the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, and position control documents, department budgets, ledger, account maintenance, and data entry
    • Provides financial reporting in a timely and accurate manner to grant proponents
    • Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports
    • Oversees all necessary regulatory financial reporting, and stays current on all necessary rules and regulations in order to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary reporting requirements
    • Handles all financial security matters and related contacts for TBA
    • Monitors and tracks organizational expenses, suggesting adaptive management as necessary and appropriate
    • Provides support for staff members for managing department budgets on a daily basis
    • Oversees financial operations of the TBA Nature Shop by analyzing sales and inventory levels and provides reports to the Director of Education and Engagement

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Serves as a member of the leadership team and provides input and guidance regarding the organization’s strategic financial direction
    • Supports TBA events such as the Southeast Arizona Birding Festival, Membership annual holiday event, and others as requested.

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    This position oversees the Bookkeeper role and may oversee contractors and volunteers in various capacities as needed.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business (an Associate’s degree and minimum 5 years experience may be considered in lieu of a 4-year degree)
    • Minimum 5 years of financial and operations management experience in the non-profit sector
    • Demonstrated ability to design and implement best practices in financial and operations management
    • Solid knowledge of non-profit organizations, GAAP standards and fund accounting
    • Proven experience managing the quality and content of all financial and accounting data, reporting, and coordinating audits for an organization or significant department/program
    • Solid understanding of contracts management and compliance
    • Proven experience working with a cloud-based suite of finance, accounting and human resources systems, including bill.com, Quickbooks Online, and payroll/timekeeping systems such as isolved
    • A track record in not-for-profit grants management, particularly in the areas of financial reporting and compliance, with federal grants experience preferred
    • Knowledgeable of best practices in human resources management
    • Demonstrated ability to work with IT and staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increase efficiency
    • Flexible and a self-starter; highly detail-oriented

    Compensación
