STATEMENT OF JOB:

The Institutional Giving Manager is a key member of the Development Department responsible for managing an existing robust institutional giving program, while strategically growing support from institutional sources (foundations, corporations, and government) to achieve annual fund revenue goals, fund special projects and advance the Campaign for The New Huntington. The successful candidate must work independently and in collaboration with the development team, other department heads, and senior management team members. Reporting directly to and working closely with the Director of Development (DOD), the Institutional Giving Manager collaborates with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) as well as the Managing and Artistic Director to create an institutional giving strategy to grow and diversify the portfolio of grants from all sectors and to develop relationships with those who provide financial support for the theatre.

JOB DUTIES:

• In collaboration with the Director of Development, create an annual institutional fundraising framework and independently implement the plan
• Manage a robust portfolio of existing funders and develop prospects to raise over $1.5 million annually from corporate, foundation, and government sources while seeking growth potential from these sectors; collaborate with CDO on the research and development of five, six-and seven figure funding proposals in support of the Campaign for the New Huntington
• Maintain year-round schedule of grant proposal and manage submission and reporting deadlines, to ensure that The Huntington meets all grant requirements and maximizes institutional fundraising
• Write/prepare compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, project budgets, and other required grant documentation
• Direct work of the Development Research and Communications Coordinator that supports the institutional giving strategy, including assisting with letters of inquiry, research, and support materials
• Ensure that all reporting requirements are met in a timely fashion, with ample time for internal reviews and approvals; and in compliance with funder expectations to sustain successful philanthropic relationships
• Actively identify and research potential funding sources, keeping abreast of new opportunities and trends in philanthropy
• Act as key point of contact for The Huntington’s institutional funders and prospects
• Project manage all aspects of grant submission and reporting including:
  • Work cross-departmentally to develop a strong understanding of The Huntington’s artistic, educational and community programs to ensure a knowledge base of all areas requiring support
  • Coordinate with the finance department on proposals and reports that require budgets and financial data
• Strategically deploy senior Huntington artistic and administrative leaders to build relationships with institutional funders in support of fundraising goals
• Actively cultivate relationships with institutional donors, serving as a representative of The Huntington at key external events throughout Boston and hosting funders at Huntington productions, programs, and events
• Attend in-person opportunities to network with institutional funders and prospects
• Staff Huntington events as needed and assist colleagues in support of overall development goals

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Five or more years of experience in grant writing and grant management, including funder relationship management, preferably in an arts or cultural institution; strong understanding of the arts funding environment
• Advanced knowledge of corporate, foundation and government fundraising with demonstrated success in securing five- and six-figure grants
• Excellent writing, organizational and communication skills, meticulous attention to detail and proficient project management capabilities
• Superior editing and proofreading skills; facile with budgets, financial reports and interpreting data
• Confident conducting in-person solicitations to high-level institutional funders
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines, assignments, and projects
• Capacity to work effectively both independently and as a dedicated team member; demonstrated ability to work with program staff and finance departments to craft successful grant proposals
• Sound judgment and discretion to handle confidential information
• Experience using a donor database (Tessitura preferred), Microsoft Office suite of applications, online fundraising tools
• This position includes some nights and occasional weekend work related to fundraising events.
