Program and Development Specialist or Senior Specialist

Who We Are:

Institute for Exceptional Care (IEC) is a nonprofit organization committed to making healthcare better for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD). IEC works to change, at scale, how healthcare is taught, delivered, and paid for, to improve the wellbeing of people with IDD (conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, etc.). As nationally recognized healthcare leaders who also have personal connections to IDD, we foster collaborations between the disability and healthcare communities to create solutions that are effective, efficient, and centered on the priorities and perspectives of people with disabilities.

We are an ambitious and dynamic organization punching well above our weight, with a budget of $2.7M and partners spanning state and federal government agencies, academic medical centers, major health insurance companies, disability advocacy and service groups, national clinical organizations, hundreds of people with IDD, and caregivers. We are seeking a Program and Development Specialist, or Senior Specialist to contribute to our rapidly growing portfolio of work.

Responsibilities:

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to address health disparities among people with IDD by:

Providing Project Management and Supporting Program Implementation

• Provide project management support on multiple, concurrent initiatives.
• Track activities in project management tools (e.g., Asana).
• Work with the Director of Policy and Programs and the Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer to develop project budgets for grants and contracts, as well as manage the work and resources within those budgets.
• Contribute to work products for both internal use and external publication. This means co-producing high-quality documents such as powerpoints or other written materials with superlative writing and attention to accuracy, depth, and disability values.
• Make proactive recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team on programmatic and operational decisions.
• Do independent research, such as reviewing literature or conducting online investigations and expert interviews.
• Support self-advocates/care partners to fully participate in project work. This means working directly with individuals before, during and after meetings.
• Build and manage relationships with project partners, including self-advocates, care partners, clinical professionals, and other healthcare experts and leaders. This means occasionally leading external meetings and having the ability to react to new issues with sound, independent judgment.

Supporting the Director of Development and the Director of Community Partnerships:

• Conduct research to identify potential new funders and create profiles of prospective donors suggested by Leadership and Board members.
• Assist with entering donor information into our Salesforce database, such as gift donations, contact information and donor activity, as well as running donor reports as needed.
• Provide grants management support for IEC’s portfolio of grants and contracts. This will also include assisting and assisting and contributing to the successful submission of grant applications and grant reports.
• Assist with donor stewardship and cultivation activities of IEC’s donors.
• Assist with managing relationships with external partners, including other disability organizations and healthcare experts and leaders.

The Program and Development Specialist/Senior Specialist will report to the Director of Policy and Programs.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate should have a passion for our mission and at minimum a bachelor’s degree, excellent written and oral communication skills, and at least 3-5 (Specialist) or 6-8 (Senior Specialist) years of experience in health policy, data or policy analysis, healthcare services, and/or disability policy and services. Direct personal experience with IDD and/or a Master's degree in a related field preferred but not required. We are looking for candidates who are proactive, creative, and independent problem solvers, and can bring thoughtful points of view to a leading role on major projects.

Other Important Information:

IEC is a nonprofit organization registered in Washington, D.C. operating virtually with team members in multiple states. It is not required that applicants for this position be based in Washington DC, but those living in other time zones should be prepared for work hours that begin no later than 10am EST. We do not cover relocation expenses. We occasionally have in-person staff meetings in Washington, D.C. and compensate for travel and lodging costs. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with a candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Salary range $50,000 - $85,000, along with a typical benefits package. IEC will assess each candidate's individual experience, skills, and qualifications to decide which job level they are most suited for within the advertised positions.
