    Position Summary

    The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting accounting operations of the company including but not limited to; maintaining accounting records with fidelity and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, the production of periodic financial reports, leveraging controls and systems that mitigate risk thereby enhancing the accuracy of the company's reported financial results for the purpose of helping Habitat meet its mission.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Performs intermediate and advanced level accounting; reviews and adjusts general ledger entries for compliance with required standards; supports audit processes.
    • Analyzes financial data for posting/reporting errors; reviews balance sheet accounts, revenues, and expenditures; investigates and corrects discrepancies in journal entries.
    • Prepares and maintains grants receivable and grant expense reporting; ensures compliance with grant requirements.
    • Oversees accounts payable and monitors cash flow.
    • Reconciles bank statements and resolves issues with banking institutions.
    • Coordinates services with insurance providers, including renewals, claims, and certificates of insurance.
    • Assists with the annual financial audit and workers’ compensation audit.
    • Prepares and assists with jurisdictional, state, and federal reports.
    • Maintains accurate documentation for all grant and contract reporting in accordance with funding requirements.
    • Researches and resolves questions or complaints from staff and vendors.
    • Participates in staff meetings and training as directed by the Team Supervisor – Finance and Housing Operations.
    • Contributes to preparation and review of annual organizational and departmental budgets; supports Finance Manager in producing budget reports.
    • Provides feedback on internal controls and recommends risk mitigation strategies; ensures compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and policies.
    • Supports Finance Committee by preparing agenda, minutes, and reports.
    • Completes data entry and other tasks as needed.

    Education and Experience

    • Experience working with a team to overcome obstacles and achieve excellent results.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of prior experience in nonprofit accounting,
    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting required
    • Experience with HUD contracts is a plus.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • Knowledge of and experience with leasing process and payment cycles.
    • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and computer usage to include email, internet and presentations.
    • Proficient in Abila MIP is a plus
    • Demonstrated passion about HSN’s mission with the ability to promote and communicate HSN’s philosophy, mission and values to external and internal stakeholders.

    Conditions of Employment

    • Provision of satisfactory references and completion of background investigation check
    • Completion of a pre-employment drug screening as well as post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use
    • Demonstrated computer literacy, which may be assessed through pre-employment testing.
    • Completion of HSN new employee orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting to work
    • Compliance with all HSN Policies and Procedures.
