Do you believe coaches/instructors can be some of the most influential people in a young person’s life? Do you have a passion for fitness and nutrition? If so, you should consider being a FAN4Kids instructor through Up2Us Sports AmeriCorps!

FAN4Kids is a non-profit education organization who educates pre-k-4th grade students in underserved communities in NY and NJ on how to lead healthy lives through fitness and nutrition. Up2Us Sports powered by AmeriCorps, is the nationwide leader in engaging, training and supporting sports coaches to serve as mentors and role models to youth living in some of America’s most underserved communities.

Join both FAN4Kids and Up2Us Sports for the opportunity to make a positive impact on underserved elementary school children and their families, create social change in your community, gain experience working with youth in a school setting and receive ongoing professional development and instructor training. Location of role is Bronx, NY and Newark, NJ.

Responsibilities include:

• implementing the FAN4Kids curriculum;
• planning and teaching fitness and nutrition lessons to public school students in grades ranging from pre-k-4;
• structuring and supervising recess;
• planning and conducting parent workshops;
• leading family fitness days;
• periodically collecting and summarizing data
• acting as a liaison between school staff and FAN4Kids
• managing relationships with principals, teachers and aides
• attend professional trainings throughout the year

The ideal candidate must be passionate about serving as a mentor and role model to youth in underserved communities as well as be enthusiastic about fitness and nutrition. Experience working with youth (highly preferred).

Open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents

Must be at least 18 years old

Must have, or be working towards High School diploma, GED, or equivalent

Must have access to reliable transportation

Successful completion of criminal history background checks

Classes and associated activities take place Monday-Friday during school hours (approximately 8am-3pm) and occasionally before or after school.
