    The Mountaineers is a community of outdoor recreationists and conservationists founded in 1906 to explore the peaks and waterways of the Pacific Northwest. Today, we have 16,000 members and seven branches in Western Washington, where we deliver most of our outdoor education programming.     Position Overview

    The Olympia Partner- Program Coordinator is the inspirational staff leader, organizational mastermind, and purveyor of all things Summer Partner Programs at our Olympia location. They are primarily responsible for the safe and effective execution of educational and recreational programming for Mountaineers Olympia Partner Programs. This part time position will also include working select days at the Olympia Summer Camp. This includes facilitating group programs and field trips; taking the initiative to go above and beyond; and managing gear.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee and support programmatic elements such as group programs, field trip days, waterfront activity, and transportation for Partner Programs.
    • Work as needed at Olympia Summer Camps.
    • Create a positive, enthusiastic, supportive, professional environment for staff, volunteers, partners and participants.
    • Ensure The Mountaineers youth policies and procedures are always followed and adhered to.
    • Act as a mentor and point of contact person for staff and volunteers.
    • Assist the Director in running activities
    • Providing an leadership presence at Partner Program field trips
    • Providing excellent customer service to families and partners
    • Maintaining a daily schedule and checking with camp groups when working camp.
    • Provide outdoor instruction for campers (i.e., hiking, climbing, foraging, etc.)
    • Leading climbing trips for partner programs.

    Requirements

    • Minimum age 21.
    • Cultural humility and desire to work with people of all races, ages, genders, abilities and economic backgrounds.
    • Experience working with youth
    • Ability to pass a national criminal background and sex offender check
    • Ability to drive a 12-passenger van
    • Ability to travel to offsite programs
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
    • Must have (and maintain) an acceptable driving record to drive Mountaineers vehicles.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
    • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills
    • Flexibility and adaptability when things don’t go as planned
    • Positive attitude and ability to carry oneself in a professional manner to create positive experiences
    • Understanding of outdoor climbing skills. (setting up a top rope, belaying, etc.)

    Desired Qualifications

    • Summer camp experience, or comparable experience working with youth 8-16 years old in single day or overnight settings
    • Experience teaching outdoor recreation skills such as hiking, backpacking, first aid, navigation, outdoor cooking, naturalist skills, teambuilding, or photography.
    • Experience managing a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
    • Current First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain
    • Experience in Washingtons outdoor climbing locations.

    Work Environment

    This role is based in Olympia, WA at Olympia Friends Meeting House and some training and programming will occur offsite throughout the summer.

    Physical Demands

    • Ability to work and manage a flexible schedule, including evening hours, as necessary
    • Ability to life and move 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 occasionally
    • Ability to be outside and active for extended periods of time, in a variety of weather conditions.
    • Ability to bend, squat, run, or climb as part of duties leading youth; ability to hike on uneven and hilly terrain continuously for up to 8 miles.
