    Salary Range: $140,000 - $151,000

Our more than 150 team members help families navigate their childcare and preschool options and secure financial assistance to pay for it. We provide home-based childcare businesses with the training and resources to succeed. Through a wide range of free programs and workshops, we support parents and caregivers as they build child development. As the city’s second-largest nonprofit contractor, with an annual budget of over $240 million, we are a major stakeholder in the child care system.     POSITION SUMMARY:

    Children’s Council is on a journey to move from transactional to transformational support and services for families and child care educators. In doing so, we need to address inequities within our system and throughout our city. The Senior Director of ECE Workforce Equity & Innovation oversees Children’s Council’s Equity and Innovation strategy for ECE Workforce in San Francisco and beyond. They lead a diverse and growing team who are committed to Children’s Council’s mission. The charge is to increase the number of and retention of BIPOC educators (including a specific commitment to Black educators) to increase the number and quality of BIPOC owned Child Care business, and foster a thriving, diverse workforce to improve learning outcomes for BIPOC children and the welfare of educators.

    The Senior Director of ECE Workforce Equity & Innovation supports the Director of Black & BIPOC ECE Achievement, Senior Manager of Equity & Leadership and the Associate Director of Business Support. They provide leadership, program partnership & management to align and foster collaboration in support of the ECE field: to provide quality services to families and providers, increase partnerships to serve our communities and continue to assess and evaluate the impact our impact.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategic Vision and Organizational Leadership

    • Articulate and communicate an actionable vision to achieve goals and continuously improve programs
    • Develop the cross functional plan to assess, monitor and evaluate our services to our Black community
    • Oversee Black ECE Policy Council, Leadership Academy, BizNest/FCC Incubator, Family Friend and Neighbor (FFN) pathways, and Black & BIPOC Pipeline to Career programs
    • Engage in continuous program evaluation and development to serve emerging needs of our community of educators as aligned with Children’s Council’s Thriving Workforce Strategy
    • Lead cross organizational convening to oversee funding and investments into the Black & BIPOC community and ECE workforce
    • Member of Children’s Council Program leadership team charged with building an aligned organization-wide Program Innovation strategy

    Staff Supervision, Development and Performance Management

    • Recruit, hire, develop and retain a diverse, high-performing team motivated to accomplish goals
    • Work with staff to establish expectations, objectives and milestones
    • Provide timely performance feedback, working with staff to diagnose problems, develop solutions and monitor progress; engages in ongoing coaching and counseling

    Program Leadership

    • Oversee teams to lead, launch and implement a suite of workforce development programming
    • Work in partnership with Department of Early Childhood and other government entities, higher education including SF State University and City College of SF, private funding partners, CBO partners and other stakeholders to advance the profession of childcare providers and improve financial and educational opportunities for growth in the industry
    • Implement high-quality feedback loops to continuously improve programs and staff capacity, in partnership with Research, Data & Evaluation Department

    Community Collaboration and Resource Development

    • Build and maintain effective relationships with government, private funders and community partners; leverage relationships across various fields to advance Children’s Council’s work, in close partnership with CPO and Advancement Department.
    • Work with program funders and community partners in systems- and program-design and evaluation.
    • Cultivate new funding relationships, proactively identifying opportunities and making initial connections, as appropriate to the position, in close partnership with CPO and Advancement Department.
    • Stay abreast of research and trends related to our mission and programs.
    • Will perform other duties as assigned.

    Project and Financial Management

    • Keep track and manage all finances, coordinate educator payments, programmatic and financial updates and outcomes to funders, in close partnership with Finance Department.
    • Participate in the partner/funder convenings, events, meetings and other mandatory requirements
    • Build plan to gather stakeholder data to assess progress and improvements
    • Provide regular reporting on data analysis of programs and initiatives in collaboration with Research, Data and Evaluation team
    • Determine management and staffing structure needed to develop and run successful program
    • Adhere to organizational policies, laws, regulations and professional standards governing our work

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
    • Minimum 4 years of proven performance and leadership experience focused on serving targeted populations
    • Proven success negotiating contracts with community partners and funders
    • Fluency with issues faced by financially and socially vulnerable families, direct experience working with diverse staff, families or children, and commitment to social equity’
    • Minimum four years of management experience overseeing related programs and supervising staff.
    • Advanced knowledge of child care service delivery and evaluation with knowledge of key systems,
    • Prior experience in training adult learners, presenting information to groups and/or facilitating meetings.
    • Excellent written and communication and/or skills – writing and managing grants and government contracts.
    • Experience working with diverse staff, client populations, families and children.
    • Experience with change management preferred
    • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to move throughout the office, access files, meet with staff and external partners, climb four flights of stairs if needed.
    • Require the mental acuity to perform the essential functions as outlined in an accurate and timely fashion.

    Hybrid Work

    We have adopted a hybrid working model and currently require employees to be present in the office at least 3 days per week, with the option to work 2 days per week remotely. Applicants should be comfortable with both the remote and in office scenarios.

    COVID Policies

    All staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (barring application for medical or religious exemptions). Wearing masks in the office is optional for our staff.
