    Position Overview

    KID Museum is seeking a Finance Manager/Senior Associate to oversee ongoing accounting operations, with functional responsibility for accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and financial report generation for reimbursable and forward funded grants. Responsibilities also include drafting of financial reports; proper maintenance of accounting records; accurate processing of financial transactions and needed documentation; and administration of KID Museum’s comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

    The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline from an accredited college or university, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience managing the primary financial activities of a nonprofit organization. Candidates will understand the nuances of nonprofit accounting at a growing organization and will have proven experience improving an organization’s financial policies, SOPs and codification of best practices. The Finance Manager will report to the Managing Director of Finance, and will ensure quality work from contractors in the finance department.

    Essential Job Functions

    Accounting:

    • Monitor accounts payable and receivable, revenue and expense classification in the accounting system, the fixed assets schedule, cash balances, and monthly reconciliation work.
    • Ensure all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
    • Assist in the management of KID Museum’s portfolio of grants including reporting, compliance with funders’ terms, and reconciliations.
    • Prepare grant fiscal reports and track income and expenses of grants as required.
    • Support the Development team’s funding proposals, including assisting with budget projections and providing financial reports and compliance documents.
    • Assist with administration of organizational financial and payroll systems.

    Analysis & Reporting:

    • Lead regular meetings with program managers and functional area leaders to review past and upcoming spending.
    • Create, review and analyze preliminary financial statements (including income statements, balance sheet, budget and variances) with the Managing Director of Finance for management and committees use.
    • Prepare ad-hoc reports for grant/program/event financial monitoring.

    Auditing, Taxes & Compliance:

    • Member of the Finance/Accounting group responsible for maintaining best practices and compliance within the accounting function.
    • Support the completion of the annual IRS Form 990 tax filing and other annual Federal and State filings.
    • Assist in coordinating the preparation of the draft audited financial statements.
    • Assist in the preparation of the Functional Expense Statement.

    Other:

    • Process organization’s payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
    • Manage and maintain payroll software systems.
    • Maintain consultant and contractor agreements and data to ensure compliance.
    • Successfully complete other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Payroll processing systems, and Google Suite with ongoing interest in gaining expertise on additional IT systems/programs. Salesforce knowledge is a plus.
    • Well-honed financial data analysis abilities used to communicate insights on patterns, concerns and opportunities is a must have.
    • Nonprofit accounting experience focused on functional expense analysis work; experience with fund/grants accounting preferred.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong self-discipline, analytical, time management and prioritization skills.
    • Strong administrative skills; good research, planning, and organizational skills; strong work ethic and follow-through; and excellent attention to detail.
    • Interest in and enthusiasm for museums and/or science education.

    The candidate must be able to perform the above tasks independently, accurately, reliably, and in a timely manner. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.     Hiring Salary - $75,000 to $85,000 annually (40 hours per week)
