    Position: Deputy Director

    Organization: Golden Oldies Cat Rescue

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Hours: Full time (40 hours per week); Exempt (Salaried)

    Compensation: Salary range of $68,640 - $80,000 commensurate with experience

    Benefits: Benefits include 2 weeks of paid vacation per year on accrual basis; 5 paid sick days per year; health insurance stipend of $5,000 per year; 11 paid holidays (federal holidays) and one paid birthday holiday; stipend of $80 per month paid towards phone and internet bill.

    This position is a primarily remote role, with occasional in-person meetings and some attendance of community events. This organization does not have an office. Candidates who apply must have a passion for animals and be comfortable working independently. This position will be the only full-time role at the organization and this person will work in collaboration with a part-time Executive Director and a part-time Animal Program Manager. Candidates must reside in Monterey County.

    Golden Oldies Cat Rescue, established in 2016, is focused on the rehoming of cats 6 years and older in Monterey County. The Deputy Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    Programs and Volunteers

    • Provide back-up to the Animal Program Manager, as needed;
    • Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator in screening, recruiting and onboarding new volunteers;
    • Oversee volunteers in activities such as: tabling, website, social media, events, presentations, mailings, donor and community outreach;
    • Work with the board of directors to organize two Volunteer/Foster Orientations and one volunteer appreciation event each year;

    Marketing/Communications/Events

    • Create content for social media and e-newsletters with assistance of volunteers;
    • Create and place all forms of advertising, including print media, digital media, and public service announcements, working in collaboration with the Editorial Committee of the board of directors;
    • Supervise activities of the social media team and evaluate effectiveness of such media;
    • Work with event volunteers and coordinators to produce at least one fundraising event per year;
    • Serve as spokesperson and ambassador for the organization when needed, attending relevant community events and committee meetings

    Finances

    With the support of the bookkeeper, Board Treasurer and Certified Public Accountant (CPA):

    • Manage payroll and tax filings, pay bills, and update Quickbooks;
    • Prepare financial reports for the Board as requested;
    • Provide all information needed for filing the annual nonprofit tax returns (990, etc.);
    • Create and manage approved budget for fiscal year in collaboration with the Executive Director, Board President and Treasurer
    • Prepare grant reports, as required by granting organizations;

    Operations

    • Manage Google Suite, including the uploading and updating of documents, lists, manuals, photos, bios, etc.;
    • Supervise the Gmail rotation team, ensuring all emails are answered in a timely manner;
    • Complete Shelter Animals count data at the end of each month.

    Other duties:

    • Provide a monthly report to the Executive Director ahead of each Board meeting;
    • Attend Board Meetings as requested;
    • Assist the Executive Director in accomplishing the Strategic Plan and organization goals;
    • Serve as acting Executive Director in the ED’s absence, providing leadership and decision-making as needed in coordination with the Board President;
    • Occasionally attend weekend or evening events;
    • Stay informed about trends in animal welfare and propose innovative solutions to address emerging challenges.

    Minimum qualifications and skills

    • Proven ability to work collaboratively, independently, and comfortably in a remote work environment;
    • Strongly detail oriented with the ability to effectively multi-task and meet deadlines;
    • Computer literate, familiarity with or ability to learn QuickBooks, Google Suite, Canva, MailChimp, Client Management Software;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Ability to effectively utilize social media as a marketing and outreach tool;
    • Ability to create and manage budgets;
    • Passion for animals and our mission of rescuing older cats;
    • Must hold a valid California driver’s license and provide proof of insurance;
    • Must live in Monterey County.

    Ideal candidates also will have:

    • 2-3 years of nonprofit experience, preferably in the area of animal welfare;
    • 1 year of director-level experience.
