    JOB MISSION

    YPIE programs prepare students with the academic and life skills needed for college success. The more ready students are for college, the higher the likelihood they’ll succeed. YPIE seeks an Academic Coach/Afterschool Instructor to help students learn key academic math, science, and writing skills that will prepare them for college success.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & RESULTS

    • Academics
      • After-school Instruction: Plan and execute daily academic lessons/tutoring sessions to ensure each student improves their academic skills in core subject areas, focusing on math, science, and/or writing.
      • In-school Student Support: Develop and support academic intervention plans to both directly tutor students and foster self-advocacy so students identify and seek school support structures.
    • Majors
      • Plan, coordinate, and teach one or more career-pathway programs (“YPIE Majors”).
      • Facilitate real-world project-based learning experiences for students that empower them to compete and contribute to their field.
    • Curriculum & Lesson Planning
      • Regularly plan well-sequenced, engaging lessons that show an urgent and appropriate use of time towards mastering aims that are achievable, rigorous, and measurable. Proactively address student misconceptions and has students defend their answers. Plan a measurable daily objective with frequent opportunities to assess learning
      • Sometimes in collaboration with partners, design and/or adapt curriculum for the courses you are facilitating.
    • Active Student Learning
      • Use a variety of strategies to increase thinking and talking done by students. Plan and facilitate lessons that elicit 100% engagement and spark student curiosity.
      • Build rituals and relationships that convey high expectations for all students. Scaffold student learning so that all students master the material.
    • Effective Professional Relationships with Students
      • Develop strong professional relationships with students in order to provide targeted and comprehensive support.
      • Coach each Scholar around accessing resources, connecting students to crucial YPIE and external resources as necessary and holding students accountable for milestones to achieve their goals.
      • Collaborate with volunteers to assist in providing services to YPIE students.
    • Family Engagement
      • Maintain active, collaborative relationships with key family figures in students' lives, coordinating to address students’ challenges and reinforce goals.
      • Facilitate meetings involving a family figure for each student.
    • Program Administration & Recruitment
      • Manage student records and leverage data systems to proactively identify student challenges and concerns.
      • Manage relevant program logistics and communicate with key stakeholders about timelines and necessary tasks.
      • Recruit for a new cohort of YPIE Scholars each year, proactively collaborating with district partners to identify target students and deliver info sessions and presentations.

    CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

    To be eligible for consideration:

    • Experience in teaching, program design, counseling, social work, or related field
    • Experience with and commitment to ensuring equity for a diverse population of students
    • Ability to navigate partnerships with diverse stakeholders
    • Ability to make arrangements for daily travel/transitions between program sites
    • Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours as student needs arise
    • Proven organizational and program tracking skills

    • Spanish fluency

    JOB DETAILS

    This position is based in-person across multiple program sites in Yonkers, NY. The position is full-time for 10 months of the year (September - June), with opportunity to work in July and August. The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $68,000.
