    Position: Program Coordinator, Camp Naru

    Location: 2 Wooster St., Fl. 2, New York, NY 10013

    Camp Naru is a transformative overnight summer camp designed to inspire identity development and foster a strong sense of community through a vibrant Korean American cultural lens. As a flagship program of the YS Kim Foundation, Camp Naru empowers Korean American youth by helping them embrace their heritage, build confidence, and develop as future leaders. Camp Naru welcomes campers for a dynamic blend of academic enrichment, cultural exploration, and recreational activities. Through a thoughtfully curated curriculum, we provide an immersive experience where campers grow in self-awareness, form lasting friendships, and develop a deep appreciation for their cultural identity—all within a supportive, fun, and inclusive environment.

    Position Summary

    The Program Coordinator, Camp Naru will work closely with the Director and Assistant Director of Camp Naru to support and implement camp week and year-round community-building initiatives. These include Camp Naru, the Young Adults Engagement Program (focused on Camp Naru counselors, staff, and alumni), and post-camp camper engagement.

    The Program Coordinator will play a vital role in event coordination, community engagement, communications, and administrative support, ensuring meaningful and impactful experiences for campers, families, alumni, staff, and the broader Korean American community.

    Key Responsibilities

    Camp Programming & Community Engagement

    • Assist in developing and implementing culturally relevant programming for Camp Naru.
    • Assist in organizing post-camp camper engagement activities, including reunions, virtual programs, and year-round cultural initiatives.
    • Support the planning of workshops, identity-focused activities, and leadership development programs under the guidance of the Director and Assistant Director.
    • Serve as a main contact for campers, families, and alumni to facilitate ongoing engagement and community-building initiatives.

    Event & Program Coordination

    • Assist in the planning and execution of camp events, including pre-camp orientations, leadership workshops, and special guest sessions.
    • Assist in the organizing of post-camp camper engagement activities, including online community-building initiatives.
    • Coordinate event logistics, such as booking venues, managing participant registrations, and preparing materials.
    • Support on-site operations during camp, ensuring smooth day-to-day programming.

    Staff & Volunteer Support

    • Assist with seasonal staff recruitment, onboarding, and training logistics (scheduling, material preparation, attendance tracking)
    • Assist with communications for counselors, volunteers, and facilitators.
    • Assist with the logistics for training sessions (scheduling, preparing materials, tracking attendance).
    • Support the facilitation of ongoing mentorship and professional development opportunities for seasonal staff.

    Communications & Outreach

    • Manage and create social media content, email newsletters, and program outreach materials.
    • Assist in storytelling efforts to highlight program impact through social posts, participant testimonials, and video content.
    • Support marketing campaigns to enhance program visibility and engagement.

    Fundraising & Research and Development Support

    • Support fundraising campaigns and donor engagement efforts.
    • Support the coordination of fundraising events and outreach efforts.

    Administrative & Operations Support

    • Provide general administrative support, including calendar management, budgeting assistance, and logistics planning for community initiatives.
    • Coordinate communication among staff, alumni, campers, and stakeholders.
    • Ensure proper documentation and organization of program materials.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, or a related field is preferred.
    • 2-3 years of office administrative experience required. Experience in program coordination, event planning, youth/community engagement, or nonprofit work is preferred.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to engage diverse community members.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media platforms.
    • Familiarity with Korean-American culture and identity.
    • Experience in marketing, outreach, or storytelling initiatives is a plus.
    • Passionate about community-building, youth leadership, and cultural engagement.
    • A collaborative team player with a proactive and adaptable approach.

    Mandatory Commitment: The Program Coordinator must attend pre-camp training and camp week each year. For 2025, these sessions are scheduled from August 7 to August 16. This annual commitment is essential, as it provides critical hands-on experience and full immersion in the foundation’s mission. Travel and accommodations for this period will be provided.

    Work Environment & Schedule

    • Hybrid role based in NYC, with occasional travel for camp sessions, community events, and team meetings.
    • Some evening and weekend availability is required for events and engagement initiatives.
