NJPIRG Student Chapters is hiring staff in Newark, New Brunswick, and Camden to oversee and run the student vote of support that happens every three years at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Coordinators run a Vote Yes for NJPIRG Student Chapters campaign from start to finish by rallying support for NJPIRG and our campaigns to protect the environment, protect consumers, and do service for the community.

New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG) Student Chapters is a student-run, student-funded public interest non-profit that has been at Rutgers for over 40 years running campaigns to protect the environment, fight hunger and homelessness, and promote civic engagement.

    Key Responsibilities

Every three years, students at Rutgers University reaffirm their decision to fund NJPIRG Student Chapters through a referendum vote. Students at all of the colleges of Rutgers University will have the opportunity to vote. In this referendum, over 20,000 students will cast their ballots. Key responsibilities include:

    • Hiring, training and overseeing poll workers and ballot counters.
    • Distributing materials, including ballots, polling signs, and other materials to poll workers.
    • Distributing, maintaining an accurate count of, and impounding the ballots.
    • Managing payment for all referendum staff and maintaining accurate records of all hours worked and pay accrued.
    • Ensuring that all polling places are staffed at all times.
    • Tabulating and counting ballots.

    Qualifications

    We’re looking for candidates who

    • Have a demonstrated commitment to environmental, public interest and/or student issues, and a track record of leadership.
    • Are ready to take on responsibility for running the referendum campaign.
    • Are goal-driven, results-oriented, and hard working.
    • Have excellent communication skills.
    • Are driven, work well with all kinds of people, and aren’t afraid to get outside their comfort zones.

    Compensation and Benefits

This position is approximately 3-4 months. Pay and benefits are prorated for the length of your position, based on this target annual package: The target annual compensation range for this position is $37,000-$43,347 and depends on location, experience, and start date. We also offer excellent training and opportunities for advancement.

Locations: We’re hiring coordinators in New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden, NJ.

Timeline: Positions start as early as August 2025, and we’re looking for candidates who can commit to working through the end of the referendum on November 25th.
