    Position Title: Campaigns & Government Affairs Advocate

    Location: Washington, D.C. area remote

    Reports to: Campaigns Director

    Hours Per Week: Full-Time

    Position Summary

    The Campaigns & Government Affairs Advocate will lead Evergreen’s advocacy efforts on key climate issues, build strong relationships internally and with federal decision-makers, and drive impactful campaigns that advance bold climate policies. The Advocate will navigate political challenges, champion issues like utility accountability, transportation, and industrial decarbonization, and spearhead high-priority initiatives during critical political moments.

    What You Will Do

    • Engage Federal Policymakers: Build and manage relationships with key Congressional offices and federal agencies, serving as Evergreen’s primary point of contact for climate policy issues. Lead briefings and meetings with decision-makers.
    • Collaborate with Coalition Partners: Establish and strengthen relationships with climate justice organizations, labor unions, and other advocacy groups. Identify opportunities for collaboration and alignment to drive collective impact on shared campaign goals.
    • Lead Campaign Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for issue-based campaigns, ensuring coordination across Evergreen’s departments. This includes setting goals, tracking progress, and adapting to emerging political opportunities.
    • Coordinate Cross-Team Efforts: Work closely with the policy, communications, and research teams to ensure that campaign efforts are well-integrated and aligned with organizational objectives.
    • Represent Evergreen Publicly: Act as Evergreen’s voice in coalitions and advocacy tables, participating in or leading coalition meetings and webinars to build Evergreen’s profile and amplify key issues.
    • Monitor Legislative and Regulatory Developments: Stay updated on relevant climate legislation, regulatory actions, and partner priorities. Share insights with the Evergreen team to guide advocacy strategies and adjust campaigns accordingly.

      • Understood how Evergreen has engaged, or not, on the issues in your portfolio to date
      • Offered ideas on ways for Evergreen to campaign on issues within your portfolio and coordinated with Evergreen staff across departments.
      • Met with key Congressional and administrative allies to introduce yourself, share about Evergreen's priorities, and understand their priorities.
      • Familiarized yourself with Evergreen’s current issue campaigns and the broader policy landscape.
      • Established relationships with existing key partners and stakeholders and identified new ones with which to engage.
    • In 6 months you will have…
      • Deepened your understanding of the partner landscape on your specific issue areas, what various groups’ value add is,
      • Built deep relationships with partners working on your issues
      • Understood the Hill/admin landscape on your specific issue areas, what various offices, departments, and staffers are doing,
      • Co-lead internal meetings with the policy lead on your specific issue campaigns and project managed the full campaign across teams.
      • Consistently held meetings with high profile decision makers - Chiefs of Staff, Agency Administrators/ Secretaries, Executive Directors..
      • Led work to identify campaign goals and strategies
      • Have written or updated campaign plans so that the full team is clear on the campaign's goals and tactics.
    • In 1 year you will have…
      • Established Evergreen as a trusted leader and expert within your issue areas.
      • Effectively managed shifting priorities and adapted to political dynamics, positioning Evergreen to influence critical moments.
      • Expanded Evergreen’s network by building new relationships with key federal and advocacy partners.
      • Familiarized yourself with Evergreen's project management structures and have mastered the art of ensuring that everyone knows what they’re doing.
      • Grown to be an internal advisor on the partner landscape and can provide guidance and advice for the full team.
      • Taken concrete steps towards achieving campaign goals within your portfolio
      • Successfully worked across Evergreen teams to manage big cross-departmental projects, including rollouts of products, events, and meetings

    What You Bring

    • 5+ years of government affairs experience, ideally in lobbying or advocacy roles. Familiarity with Congressional processes, agency rulemaking, and climate policy is a plus.
    • Proven ability to lead campaigns: Experience developing and managing issue-based campaigns, working across teams, and driving measurable outcomes.
    • Strong relationships with policymakers: Existing contacts in Congress or federal agencies are highly valued.
    • Strategic thinking: Ability to quickly adapt to shifting priorities, identify opportunities, and deliver results under tight timelines.
    • Excellent communication skills: You can articulate complex climate policies to diverse audiences, including policymakers, partners, and the public.
    • Mission and values fit: A strong alignment with Evergreen’s mission to lead bold, equitable climate action.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Salary: $115,000

    Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package that includes 99% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, 4% employer match on retirement plan contributions, a professional development budget, and a stipend to help you set up your home office, as well as paid holidays, vacation, sick, and volunteer time off.
