    The Project:Our brand new Disaster Legal Services project was created to respond to community legal needs following the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfire disaster and to position LAFLA to rapidly respond to future disaster related legal needs. The work of this team will span legal clinics, cases, impact litigation, projects, and community education for those impacted by disasters. The project will be staffed by a Managing Attorney, Staff Attorney, two post-graduate legal fellows, and the Administrative Coordinator, all of whom will work under the general supervision of LAFLA’s Pro Bono Team.

    LAFLA is currently accepting applications for the position of SeniorAdministrative Coordinator.

    NOTE: The Senior Administrative Coordinator position are a part of a special program created using designated funds. There is no assurance of ongoing funding or employment beyond 12 months.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an admin coordinator or legal secretary;
    • Prior experience supporting cases filed in California state or federal court is required;
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams), Adobe, and Zoom applications;
    • Strong time management skills and the ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail;
    • Positive attitude with a demonstrated ability to interact respectfully with diverse staff and community members.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently;
    • Outstanding written and oral communications skills;
    • Experience with legal services and poverty law preferred;
    • Understanding of and commitment to social justice;
    • Ability to meet deadlines and perform multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail;
    1. Willingness to occasionally work beyond a minimum 0
    • hour workday, including participation in occasional evening and weekend meetings & events; and
    • Willingness and ability to travel offsite.
    • Spanish language skills preferred;

    EXAMPLESOF DUTIES:

    • Participation in community outreach and education projects in person and online;
    • Supporting staff & volunteers in workshop & clinic settings in order increase legal services to the tenant community;
    • Coordination of logistics and administrative aspects of various projects, such as collecting documents from clients, updating/translating various forms, brochures, handouts and Power Point presentations; and preparing/sending out materials to staff/volunteers;
    • Working with community partners and organizations to further LAFLA target goals and serve the community;
    • Answering inquiries on the status of a case and general procedural aspects of processing legal actions by the office under attorney supervision;
    • Administrative support, such as maintaining electronic and hardcopy filing systems and appointment calendars, answering inquiries via email, over the phone or in person, case management system data entry (i.e., case opening and closing), and managing administrative details with minimum direction;
    • Answering potential hotline calls and following up on online applications; screen clients for eligibility and triage appropriate legal assistance;
    • Opening and closing intakes in real time;
    • Providing appropriate resources to clients (such as brochures, manuals, forms, & government or other organizations’ information and resources);
    • If applicable, interpretation for limited-English proficient clients in attorney-client meetings, administrative hearings, and translating correspondence; and
    • Ensuring appropriate retention/collection of required documents, data, outcome information required for proper closing of case files pursuant to funder demands.
